So I went to Install my video card driver for windows 7, it says its not a valid application so I re-download, same problem. I run the compatibility checker, it says the solution is to change its run settings to windows xp service pack 2, I tell it to do it, I go to start the program and an error pops up. "This display driver is for Windows 7, Please download the driver for Windows XP at..."

That's what TWW is for, especially when you make a fucking stupid thread like this.

ZOMG ATI or nVidia?

i like windows 7

I like a lot of the changes, its speedy, but so far I have had to edit registry entries, download third party patches made by users and other such low level hacks to get most of my games to work, and 3ds max. The office and internet stuff all works well.

you using really old hardware or something? havent had a single problem, here - and been running it for 8-9 months
1/4/2010 12:35:13 AM
Im using a 1gb Radeon 4850 HD, an AMD Phenom II X2 550, and 4 gigabytes of G.SKILL DDR2 800 ram. So nothing too old.I realize I am breaking a TWW rule: Never post pictures of your girlfriend, artwork you have created, or the parts list of your computer, unless you are ready for them to be insulted in every way possible, and for you yourself to be called a fag in 9 different ways.[Edited on January 4, 2010 at 12:45 AM. Provide a link to the drivers you're trying to download?Oh, and does this do it to anything other program or executable?[Edited on January 4, 2010 at 12:53 AM. Reason : fml]

I'll figure it out just fine, I just thought it was funny that it was sending me in circles. So far every issue that's come up has been easily solved, you just have to use the real solution that users posted on a forum somewhere and not the one posted on the official sight of whatever company made the software.

You were doing something horribly wrong then. Reg editing to get drivers installed? that is retarded and absolutely unnecessary. Especially on a new card like the 4850.It should have drivers installed out of the box for one thing. 3DS max DEFINITELY works out of the box in Win7. Autodesk is a major partner with Microsoft, their products WORK.

That regedit wasnt for a driver, it was to get "Games for windows live" to update so I could play red faction guerrilla. The 3ds max problem was because of the same video driver problem that keeps bioshock and a few other games from running, which is the issue I'm working on now. But anyway, this thread was pretty pointless, and its only getting more so, so I'm just going to let it die now.

holy crap what old hardware are you rockin? Win7 only gave me grief about my USB external sound card, but had that working with 5 minutes on their website. ATI and NVIDIA went to universal binaries a few years ago. Almost all of their cards should work with any windows provided you've got the firmware updated.

I like Windows 7, but the pre-installation compatibility check software sucks ass. Couldn't tell my wireless adapter was not compatible (according to linksys its incompatible and always will be).
