5 cents per bag added to your billi, for one, support it. i have a closet full of plastic bags and a few cloth bags that I would bring to the store if I knew I'd be getting taxed. no big deal to keep a few bags in the car.
1/4/2010 10:45:18 AM
tax?
1/4/2010 10:45:43 AM
yes, i'd support it. i have some cloth bags, but i always forget to take them with me to the store.
1/4/2010 10:45:53 AM
actually, no...because those plastic bags are my cat litter bags i have 3 of those reusable bags but i don't use them every time, simply because i need the plastic ones to scoop the poop every day.]

ABSOLUTELY NOT
1/4/2010 10:47:16 AM
Would I support a tax? No.Would I support each business' discretion in setting a higher price or charging for plastic bags? Absolutely.
1/4/2010 10:47:54 AM
1/4/2010 10:48:02 AM
fuck no. why would i support something like that?
1/4/2010 10:48:29 AM
1/4/2010 10:48:43 AM
i don't use bags at the store, since i have my own cloth bags, but i wouldn't support it.
1/4/2010 10:48:44 AM
As colonies, we revolted when our overarching government instituted dumb taxes like this. I would openly support a state grocery bag tax only if they did away with the state income tax.
1/4/2010 10:48:51 AM
Target gives you $0.05 off your order for every reusable shopping bag you bring inI have tons of resusable shopping bags that I buy with the best intentions to use them but I always forget them when I go shopping. The bag tax would remind me to bring my bags.
1/4/2010 10:49:46 AM
if the money actually went to cleaning up the anacostia and potomac rivers - i'd be all about it
1/4/2010 10:50:08 AM
^^they say that but i've never gotten 5 cents back. i've checked. oh well. i would support it. i use the bags sometimes for my smaller trash cans like my bathroom but no big deal. there are too many people who do just throw them away... [Edited on January 4, 2010 at 10:52 AM. Reason : a]
1/4/2010 10:51:31 AM
i'd support that. we've got a ton of cloth bags, and we usually use them. if we were to forget, i'd pay the cents per bag on my bill.i like how OBX just straight up stopped using plastic bags
1/4/2010 10:52:29 AM
how about supporting a bag deposit?like cans and bottles in Michigan (and other states). deposit 10 cents per can you buy. turn in the can and get the 10 cents backgo to Harris Teeter, get groceries bagged in HT plastic bags, pay extra dollar for the 20 bags, bring bags back to HT next time you shop, get dollar back.how's that so difficult and controversial?
1/4/2010 10:52:44 AM
1/4/2010 10:53:23 AM
it's a plastic bag... they cost way less than a penny. why would i want to pay MORE for one? how about first training grocery store baggers to not double bag each item individually? fill up each bag the way they are intended and there you have just significantly cut the amount of bags used.

This is like asking if I support a pick pocket who will give my money to a good cause instead of lining his own pockets.

Fuck no.Seattle Rejects Its Plastic Bag TaxAug. 19, 2009http://www.businessinsider.com/seattle-rejects-its-plastic-bag-tax-2009-8Plastic bags were supposed to save the trees, remember? Of course you don't.
1/4/2010 11:03:50 AM
I already recycle plastic bags, I have a cabinet stuffed slam full of them. I use them to pick up animal turds and when packing Christmas ornaments they make great padding.
1/4/2010 11:10:54 AM
How would this effect the self checkout line ?You know people would be over stuffing thier bags to save a nickelI forsee lots of busted bags and broken glass and ruined produces, costing the stores a lot more than 5 cents
1/4/2010 11:17:32 AM
Seattle went overboard. of course nobody will support 20 cents per bag
1/4/2010 11:20:43 AM
you tax people need to fucking die already
1/4/2010 11:21:31 AM
^^^If the bag busts because a CUSTOMER overpacked the bag, it shouldnt cost the store anything at all.I know that's not how it always works, but it's ridiculous.[Edited on January 4, 2010 at 11:23 AM. Reason : .]
1/4/2010 11:23:18 AM
you'd fucking HATE living in Michiganan extra $2.40 added on to the cost of a case of beer! and there's not a damn thing you can do about it
1/4/2010 11:23:35 AM
except you can get the money back...
1/4/2010 11:24:21 AM
no

I, too, use plastic bags for feline fecal matter encrusted in absorbent particles. As well as lunch.

I'm paying it, it sucks. This fucking city is already too expensive.
1/4/2010 11:36:08 AM
You people whine so much about taxes and then wonder why this state is in the fucking gutter.A tax on bags would help the environment, reduce waste, and bring in revenue. It's win/win/win.

Perhaps the worst thing about using a grocery bag for cat poo is when there is a little tiny hole in the plastic that you are unaware of. You then place said clumped poo in the bag and tie up the knot, only to have little specks of litter spill out onto your foot.

^^True. But at the same time, people want less taxes but more free shit. They want parks, they want good schools, they want well funded emergency services, but they still argue for less taxes. How do they think things get paid for?[Edited on January 4, 2010 at 11:41 AM. Reason : ]
