ive been with time warner for like a year for cable/internet. no real issues... but for some reason they send me a thing in the mail almost everyday asking me to sign up for their services. it's even addressed to me, not like "resident" or "our neighbor" or something....

Yeah, well it's not all up to me and I don't necessarily hate TWC's HD offerings... but U-Verse is definitely better than Satellite IMO..

My roommates and I tried to get DirectTV but supposedly it's impossible to do this at U Village/U Wood due to the location of the building and the Priess Co not allowing dishes on the roof of their building.

eh, it all depends on the ETF. Sometimes the ETF pays for itself.

For example, with my company it costs you $105 in additional fees up front to do M2M. However, the ETF on our 2 year agreement is $120, and that decreases by $5 a month for every month you are a customer.

So, you really only have to be a customer for 3 months before doing the contract justifies itself.

Prodigy/AOL/Compuserve used to give people $400 towards a computer for signing a contract (none are really around anymore, ironic?).
Cell phone companies will give you a phone worth a few hundred bucks for signing a two year contract.
TWC isn't giving you shit. Fuck a contract.

called them yesterday to get rid of cable, and they said they have a new promo thats around 70 bucks after taxes for HD Channels for their lower tiered package (I think its everything except like ESPNU, and the music channels) and 1.5 MB internet (I dont do much streaming video anyway, so it didn't matter if I had 7.5 MB or 1.5.) Went from the 120's to around 70 bucks for the next year, no commitments.

The lady said they had just started that promo within the last week.

i got my bill last week to pay and they raised my rates again. so i called them to find out what exactly they raised and they gave me some rant about how i was on a promotion for my internet that ended in November. i go, "well that's funny because every other time i've ever called you about a promotion you tell me i can't have it because i'm not a new customer." so really they raised the rates but fluffed it by trying to say i was on a promotion that i never requested.

so i got to thinking and i hadn't watched tv at my house in over a month. i don't watch much tv to begin with and if i do, it's at my boyfriend's house. so i talked to him about it and i'm just going to buy the cord that hooks up my tv to my laptop so i can stream shows from there when i want to watch something.

i cancelled my cable this week. $100 more a month in my pocket
