Seems like almost everywhere I go, I see couples riding around with the girl driving. I don't have anything against women drivers, but I've always been the driver in all of my relationships.

Aside from occasional random trips, are any of you guys out there the default passenger? Why? Do you know a couple who practices this lifestyle? Why do they?

Just interested.

P.S. Nine times out of ten, its some wannabe hard-ass looking limp bizkit guy that's riding passenger... Makes it even more ironic, IMO.... Maybe they got DUIs?

my gf LOVES driving. It irritates me, because i feel that its proper etiquette for the male to be the sole driver (of course there are exceptions) and whenever i bring it up, she gets the biggest attitude about it. So I just let her drive.

More often than not when I've been in relationships the girls have preferred that I drive. And I enjoy driving and prefer being the one behind the wheels to that's fine with me.

When I go visit the girlfriend and we have to pick something up then I'm almost always the passenger; though this is more because I generally take the two seater with a small trunk when I drive down there.

she does this so that she doesn't end up having to drive us all the time.

In my current setup, I prefer riding shotgun because she has this cool mp3 hard drive stereo so I can play the role of DJ and skip all her Kelly Clarkson and Lady Gaga and put on the good stuff as long as there's not too much profanity and innuendos

I drive 99% of the time. the other 1% is just payback for making me go somewhere I really don't want to go (crafts store, the mall, etc)

even with other family members, I always take the wheel. mostly because I have the best balance of speed and safety. I'll hog the damn wheel for 10hrs if need be.

If my wife had it her way, she would NEVER drive. She would even hire a chauffeur to drive her to work.

Therefore, I drive 99.9% of the time. The other 0.1% is on the rare occasion that she is the DD.

I hate having to adjust the seat and mirrors every time though, cause my GF is significantly shorter than me. I'm sure she hates having to get it back to her preferences too.

the last girl i dated i am convinced had some sort of narcolepsy. she admitted to me while she would be driving around (granted it was her town, atlanta, so she did most of the driving when i was there) that she would nod off at traffic lights etc

so from then on i just brought my GPS with me and did all the driving in her car.

current girl has a car that i have yet to even see. it's parked under her building somewhere. she is not a great city driver, can't parallel park, etc, so i usually pick her up if we drive somewhere, although usually we take public transportation

my favorite feature on my fiance's car is the two driver settings. before i get in, i push the "2" button on the door and it adjusts the seat and the side mirrors to my settings. all i have to do is adjust the rear view and drive. when she unlocks the doors with the driver "1" remote, it moves it back to her settings.

One of my exes insisted on driving when we had the choice to take my car or hers, because she bought into the stereotypes and made it a personal vendetta to counter them. She ended up getting a lot of speeding tickets and never wore her seat belt when she drove anywhere... rather scatterbrained actually and ironically ended up reinforcing the stereotype, which was always hilarious to me.

Personally, I don't really care THAT much, but if it is my car, I'm going to drive it the majority of the time.
