i'm not a fan of the farmer's market

i'm thinking there's tons of places to eat downtown, i've just never been to any of them. we could just park and walk...

will BBQ really give her the poops or are you assuming that because she's a yankee?

.....i told her we were going to the Pit, and she said she'd heard good things but that it would tear her stomach up.

so yeah, i'm fairly certain that was a nice way of saying BBQ MAKES ME SHIT

Make sure to go to a new bojangles, because those are usually pretty fucking nice inside and the food is pretty good. Plus it won't be in an area filled with whiny college kids, so she'll think better of the place.

Where the hell in NC doesn't have sweet tea.

That's like saying the only requirement is tables.

exactly, which is why this thread should be blowing up right now

i'm looking at a google search of downtown raleigh restaurants and all the names i'm seeing (Bogarts, Sullivans, Second Empire) all strike me as nice dinner establishments. i want a nice lunch atmosphere.

is Irregardless Cafe good for lunch?

Thankfully the guy who owns it now hasn't changed it a bit. All the stuff is still on the walls and the menus are the same. I love going there for lunch during the week.

Yeah, Big Ed's was awesome. Working there 8 to 12 on a Saturday when I was 14, I got paid $25 for the day and a free meal - whatever I wanted

I could give my roommate a shout out and suggest Sitti- place is actually reeeeeeeally good (best mediteranean in the area IMO) and really healthy

or Roast Grill (hotdog place a block over from Saucer that was on man vs food)

No sweet tea though at the roast grill, just those little bottle of cokes.

i'll add to this list the farmer's market restaurant

don't take her to the Pitt

that's too high falootin

you need to take her to a place where there's lots of drawl, ceramic pigs and local yokels everywhere

also, take her on a quick trip through the fair grounds flea market

If you take them to a BBQ place take them to Cooper's.

Or you could just take them to Bojangles .

ok, we decided to do Tir-Na-Nog, even though it's not southern and there's probably plenty of other Irish pubs up where she's from. i've wanted to try a Scotch Egg for-freaking-ever and they have them on their lunch menu.

and when she vetoed BBQ that pretty much put an end to a truly southern lunch, haha. sooooo Irish it is.

thanks teedub.

yeah, i admit i was kinda hoping for some BBQ action.....and after looking at the menu for the Pit i got excited....but it's OK, we'll have fun. it's more about catching up and chatting and less about food.

The Pit sucks, all the BBQ places have chicken, and Tir Na Nog is awesome. I'd go with Tir Na Nog.

she said if we go to the Pit she'd just get chicken, no worries there.

but we've decided on Tir Na Nog, since i've never been there and would really like to go.

because the seafood restaurant is nothing but fried food. sure, you can get broiled seafood -- but the seafood isn't such a great quality that you'd actually want it steamed/broiled.

and the other restaurant is just your standard good ol' home cookin' and honestly, i can eat that at home with mama for free.
