Have severe sinusitis (sinus infection). Getting blood (mixed in with green mucus) from right nostril when I blow my nose... yuck. Have had it since Saturday, but only went to the doctor today. She looked into my sinuses and said it is very bad. She told me to take the medications she gave, or else she will have to do surgery to drain the sinuses of the pus and blood!

Right one is much worse she said, which explains the blood from there. Also have severe face ache on the right of the face. Especially under the eye, next to the nose, in the cheekbone, and in teeth on the right side. Good thing it is the weekend, because these drugs (antibiotic, antihistamine, corticosteroids, and an expectorant syrup) will make me a zombie!

It actually started off as a viral infection (flu symptoms) last Wednesday (clear watery mucus). Had a high temperature as well. Then on Saturday the temperature was gone and the mucus turned green and I was producing massive amounts of it, but it was not in the nose... coming from high above, from the sinuses.

Never had something like this before.

Weekdays: Saturday to Wednesday
Weekend: Thursday, Friday

And I don't have classes on Wednesdays, so I go only Saturday to Tuesday. (and I didn't go today as well due to the high fever, which returned yesterday)

I hope I am well enough to go on Saturday, because next week is the last week of classes before the finals, and I need to do revision in all the courses I am teaching.

aha

sounds like me a couple weeks ago - except almost all of mine was draining into my chest, as it was coming from the rearmost sinuses.

I have never felt abx work so spectacularly.

i had a friend in high school who had to get surgery on her sinuses. they cut around her hair line and literally peeled down her face to get into her sinuses and do some major work or some shit like that

^My dad also had sinus surgery back in the day, but they went up through his nose.

He was miserable immediately after, but he went from practically living 24/7 with a sinus infection to one every few years.

I've heard good things about neti pots, but they're a pain in the ass to use everyday

I have a sea water spray which I will use regularly now.

Maybe I should get the surgery done that y'all are talking about, because I have a runny nose (clear mucus) due to my allergies 2-4 times every week. (runny nose, sneezing, runny eyes)

What are neti pots?

thats why i do the squirt bottle. it only takes about 30 seconds after i brush my teeth at night. we started buying them because my husband had severe sinus issues with polyps and deviated septum and had 3 surgeries. he doesnt use them as much as me, but i push him to do it every day during pollen times. he says its a miracle.

using this every day is supposedly as effective as allergy pills, but i havent been able to get my dad to try it yet, who also has perma-sinus infection.

I, too, have a deviated septum and have had 2 surgeries to correct it, without success

The second one seems to have deviated it the other direction

This thread is relevant to my interests as I've had sinus surgery twice in the past and then another surgery scheduled for next week.

My issue is polyps though, so it's a little different. In my case, I will say that the surgery helps tremendously, but since polyps have a bad tendency to grow back, I might be perma-screwed. All the surgeries involved just going up through the nose and (thankfully) only one involved fixing my septum -- though that could change next week.

All my sinus infections have resulted in yellow mucus, not green. They always start out as a runny nose with clear mucus, then the pressure. With the pressure comes the face/teeth ache. That's about the time I want to put a drill up my nose to release the pressure. When the blood/yellow mucus starts coming out, I'm a much happier camper. My doctor always says to use Afrin per the instructions when it starts. The only reason I even go to the doctor anymore is to get antibiotics to make sure it goes away.

glad you feel better, but take the entire prescription of antibiotics so that you kill off all of the bacteria.

^ thanks... yeah of course, i will take the whole dose!

^^ i would, i am not scared of such things, but i am not sure if i can find something like that here. i will go to a pharmacy and check today. they have lots of pressurized sprays, and drops as well, but i have not seen irrigation systems like that before. i went to the http://www.neilmed.com , and it says they will charge a shipping fee of $50 for worldwide shipping. that's too much to pay. good thing is my wife is going to the UK in march, so she can bring some back from there, as it is available there.

i have a permanent nose problem (perennial allergic/vasomotor rhinitis) due to my deviated septum. if saline nasal irrigation will work to reduce my symptoms, i really want to give it a try. and it is a natural method, which is what i like best about it.

P.S. Just checked, in the UK they sell it for GBP 13.75, which is $22+!!! In the US they sell it for $11.50! However, these are the prices from the manufacturer. On amazon.co.uk it is available for about $17.

its cheaper than that at walmart in the us, about 10 dollars for a bottle and 50 packets. a small flatrate box from the us to uae is 12.78 and takes 6-10 days. got any family or friends there that can help you out?

My sister is in the UAE (a doctor!). But, who will send it to the UAE in the first place?

Anyway, as I said, wife is going to the UK in a couple of months. Found it for $17 on amazon.co.uk, so she can bring it from there. And about $21 for a box of 100 refills.

Once you buy the bottle there is no need for extra salt packets unless you are very, very, very busy or like to waste money. Each packet contains 2 grams of NaCl. If you can find the Simply Saline brand irrigator, you might prefer that one over neilmed. The cap can be sealed like a dish soap bottle, reducing OCD washing time before use, and sometimes it is convenient to bring the bottle with you with solution prepared if you are having a horrible day. Also, the packets are easier to open and do not spill.

I swear I am not affiliated with either brand of these products, it just changed my husbands life a lot. Words can't prepare you for the relief you'll feel the first time you use that thing. just remember not to push hard, let gravity do the work.

Thanks for all the info and your concern.

I am looking forward to getting my hands on one of those products soon. Have suffered from nose problems my whole life and I am just sick of it. All year long, no matter what the climate, no matter what country, I have a runny nose and sneezing 2-3 days every week. I have been blowing my nose real hard (> 70 dB) a few times every day, since I was 10 or so.

Enough is enough!
