There used to be a place near Corolla that had really good in-house key lime pie but I have no idea if that cafe still exists.

they are grown in mexico, kew west and similar places. most "key lime pie" uses regular limes

huge difference.

especially when you grew up on key limes.

Yeah, key limes aren't exported out of their growing regions. This is fact.

Its fact that key limes lose their tartness shortly after being disconnected. Its also fact that it spoils quickly (raw egg) so its hard to export the actual pie as well.

Most "key lime pie" thats actually made in house at any restaurant uses Key Lime juice, which, for those lacking critical readng skills, is the juice from key limes and is widely available from most food service distributors. Ths shit isnt hard to get. Even fresh key limes can be obtained.

I think in this case, the troll is kinda right. You might be able to get key lime pie close to the real thing in raleigh, but not the genuine article. Using juice from can/box is like making apple pie from a can, technically you are using the same ingredients, but it isn't REALLY the same thing...

Ah yes, it's a lot like "Star Trek: The Next Generation". In many ways it's superior but will never be as recognized as the original.

ALkatraz, the Net House is still open? Hmmm.

EDIT: And isn't the Morning Times in Downtown Raleigh supposed to have pretty good Key Lime Pie? I haven't tried it.
