I forgot why you said you weren't doing the librarian route

not enough jobs in the field, is that right?

Yep. Almost all of my librarian friends ended up working as archivists making less than someone with just a BS/BA would, if they got jobs at all.

[Edited on January 21, 2010 at 1:26 PM. Reason : v also, all my coursework was devoted to arguing that librarians are still useful]

^^^, ^ we got the internet now. librarians are dinosaurs

[Edited on January 21, 2010 at 1:26 PM. Reason : jk though. librarians are more relevant than ever. we just need a different kind of librarian]

i believe it. dinosaurs never want to believe they're dinosaurs. can't argue the payscale point though. not exactly a money-maker in either the dinosaur or modern form

POST!

Raleigh really is a good place to live especially if you're a young professional. Yeah it's not NYC or Chicago, but where the hell else is? I'd love to one day get back to Raleigh, but I think the traffic and cost of living will keep me away. I love my 5 minute commute too much.

Since when does Raleigh have bad traffic and a high cost of living?

It's a relatively inexpensive town.

^^ well where I live it does. It's all relative. Yeah I agree compared to say Atlanta or Charlotte, Raleigh's traffic is good.

I miss the Raleigh traffic. Orlando's traffic is godawful.

Nope. Haven't looked back since. Don't think I've lived anywhere where I might want to go back later in life. Pity.

I felt this way about Raleigh, except all I really had to miss are the family and low cost of living.

Actually, add to that the incredibly convenient and diverse shopping, the fact that you could pretty much get anywhere you wanted to go in about twenty minutes (from where I used to live), the fact that the medical services there are completely awesome, the extremely good condition of the local infrastructure (mostly the roads and highways), and the overall attitude of the people in the area (there's a lot of snobby sluts, but at least people are pretty happy).

Being in a military town has its disadvantages, but since I've been told a dozen times this week that if I keep up the way I've been involved with things at my job lately that I'll be a prime candidate for a supervisory position, I may stay here a couple years longer than I thought. I might go back to Raleigh just for the fact that this area has a way of triggering my depression at the worst times and getting me into situations at work where I could easily get killed, but we'll see.
