With the exception of the average fast food place, (Subway, Cookout, Wendy's, etc.) where is it possible to have a somewhat substantial meal for $5?

that new place that opened where Marrakesh Cafe was has a decent special for <$5

And melvin's has food that's worth what you pay for it.

When I was at State you could go to Golden Dragon and get a big ass plate of sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and a cup of water for $3.13. That was like gold for a poor college student.

$7.50 for all you can eat buffet.... not too bad, IMHO. And Clark was awesome when I lived on campus - the food was great and the staff were very friendly.

it's all you can eat but not exactly a gourmet meal. It's a campus dining hall. How about they try to have something that caters to a college student's budget?

What gourmet food is on a buffet for that matter?

Do gourmet chefs regularly put food under a heat lamp for 45 minutes before serving it?

I ate at Fountain tonight, and this is after their supposed "face lift" that has been disappointing.

ENTREES

* Bacon Wrapped Scallops - Wouldn't try this time--they're literally skate (they HAVE to be, taste nothing like even the worst scallops) in BBQ sauce and nasty bacon. Instant appetite suppressant).
* Burgers - Meh, it's a frozen patty with cheese, not much to say.
* Outlaw ChickenTrans Fat Free - I hope you like ranch, cheese, and mushrooms.
* Shepherd's Pie - They scraped the potatoes off before serving when I was there... what?

VEGETARIAN/VEGAN

* Bowtie Pasta w/ BeansTrans Fat FreeVegan -Not beans, was asparagus. Tasted like salt and vegetable broth.
* Cheese Stuffed Shells - Removed before 6:30.
* Santa Fe BurgerWolf ApprovedTrans Fat Free - Nothing makes a veggie burger more appetizing than congealed... stuff, and a heat-lamp.

SPECIALTY BARS

* Deli Bar
* Fruit BarTrans Fat FreeWolf Approved
* Salad BarWolf Approved
* Pizza

Seriously though, Golden Dragon is great and I can't understand the haters here. The two times I've been to Beansprout not only was it more expensive, it didn't taste as good (in the exception of maybe the dumplings) and didn't have red chili paste, which is something I love about Golden Dragon. China Pearl on Avent Ferry isn't bad either, but not so "close".
