Girlfriend wants me to pick a place to go for my birthday dinner, and our "starting" list was something like Irregardless, Sono, Solas, Bogart's, and Gravy--haven't been to any of them.

We're sorta eliminated it down to Bogart's and Sono, though I'm still kind of open.

Any experiences between the two, good or bad? I know they're pretty drastically different eateries, but trying to decide and I'm horribly indecisive.

It's basically the decision between American food and Sushi.

I have a feeling Sono will be a little more expensive though. Bogarts is pretty bobo, IMO. You can do better than that.

^^I just want some opinions to make my own informed decision. Getting information about it isn't exactly having someone else make my decision. TWW Opinions only tend to be useful when they come en masse and get balanced out.

ther'es a fuckton of fantastic places.
click randomly on an area inside the beltline, and make with the google.

there have been a million restaurant suggestions on tww, and plenty of threads to this effect, too.

Don't go to Gravy, it's average at best.

Don't go to Bogarts, it's average at best.

Consider going to Dos Taquitos Centro, but the reg. Dos Taquitos is better.

Irregardless is the tits, you should think seriously about going there. Especially if you've never been.

Do you like Mediterranean food? If you do, you should go to Sitti.

Its owned by the same people as Neomonde and it is fantastic.

I like Sitti, but girlfriend hates Med. food, and it's not really want I want anyway.

Irregardless is back on the radar.

Khanki couldn't even slap together basic nigiri last time I was there, so I don't even have the vaguest motivation to return.

^^Uh oh, we have a fucking winner.

This whole time I've been thinking about a German place in the area. I know J. Betski's but what you mentioned doesn't immediately come to mind. Good place?

Oh gosh, the Bavarian Brathaus is phenomenal. Love. Love. Love.

Go there.

It's at the intersection of Cary Pkwy and Tryon Rd.

Anyone know how dressy Sono is? The Yelp page for it says "Dressy", but in their gallery they have a shot of the full dining room and there's two guys in t-shirts--but I guess those could just be wandering douchebags.

Decided the Bavarian Brathaus will be for another time, and we're going to Sono. However, we are DEFINITELY going to the Brathaus at some point or another.

I love Irregardless so much.

I'm not a big sushi fan, but the people I know who are say it's pretty damn good. With that said, I went to pick some up for a friend once and it might be more Douchebag Central than even the Busy Bee.

Be prepared to be disappointed then clientele-wise. It's where people who "like" sushi go to prove to their friends they're cool

Oh and don't get the nigiri there. The quality isn't as good as other places in Raleigh. Their specialty rolls though are

I have actually heard something similar. I think they get their fresh fish in on Wednesday. I had a couple friends go there on a Thursday and they were served fish that they suspected was leftover from the old shipment. Everybody in that party got very ill. Same people went back a couple weeks later, again on a Thursday (what can I say, I guess they enjoy peeing out of their butt) and again all of them got very ill. So if you go, go maybe on a Friday. They try to cycle through their old fish before using their new shipment.

Ehh, I wouldn't dismiss him. I've heard the same thing and the quality of fish there isn't very good from my experience. I think that's why they focus so much on specialty rolls; it's easy to mask the fish when it's covered in a bunch of other shit.
