I'm the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. It's awful. If I'm on my way to the store to buy a magazine, even, and somebody asks me where I'm going, I'm liable to say I'm going to the opera. It's terrible.

He's too old now, but I always saw Ryan Gosling as a good Holden when he was younger. He seemed like he would be able to carry the sarcastic, cynical personality well.

It would be ridiculous, almost blasphemous, to make a movie out of Catcher in the Rye

like, more than almost any other book I can think of

never never never

also, RIP sir...your book meant a hell of a lot to me

I agree, but they will. Studios have been trying to get the rights for quite some time.

The only actors that could play a believable Holden are dead. i.e. James Dean, Riv Phoenix......IMO

one of my favorite books of all time.

But I can't really mourn the guy, he lived a full life, and wasn't exactly churning out awesome books left and right.

RIP.

Some speculate he continued writing plenty, but refused to publish anything. There could be great, piss-stained manuscripts lining his shelves and drawers.

Catcher in the Rye was up there with Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man in the worst books I had to read in high school

Some people were still reading at a middle school level in high school, so I can see where you might be coming from.

Yeah I didn't even get any A.R. points for it

Les Mis was worth like 185 pts in 8th grade.

great book. certainly not the best I've ever read, but absolutely holds its place in history as a great coming-of-age, pissed off teen adventure. great for the modern 15 year old cynic.
