how you manage to get a federal refund thats the same as what you owe the state? Are they both relatively low figures?

I actually don't find that problematic. I wish more government officials actually spent time out in public. Then it would be easier for the public to voice their displeasure. I'd love to ask Bev what in the hell they're doing with all the money they're taking from us. 20th highest rates in the country and our state education system and our roads still suck.

My W-2s this year make me cringe. I made more money than I ever had before, but I also paid the equivalent of a really nice, 4 year old used BMW in taxes.

Not having state income tax is almost enough to make me want to move to Tennessee. I mean, Nashville and Memphis would both probably be pretty ok. Washington also has no state income tax, that wouldn't be too bad.

Another alternative would be to live in Nevada, but shop in New Mexico. No state income tax, no sales tax. Whammo!

Huh?

Good food, decent sized city (they actually have a pro basketball team. Sort of.), close to Tunica for gambling. Seems like it might be a decent place to live actually.

Yeah, I like that in NYC you can pay up to 48% of your income in taxes. Pretty baller. Then throw sales tax on top of that... no fucking wonder cost of living is so damned high.

NYC itself has a tax premium that you have to pay JUST for living in the city

FL isn't that bad actually. I guess it depends on where you live in FL. I live on the panhandle. It's not touristy like Orlando or Miami. Cost-of-living is way cheaper than Raleigh. Housing is cheaper too. Some of the nicest beaches I've seen in my life are here.

i don't ever plan on changing my residence from FL

in the military, once you get stationed in FL, TX, WA, or anywhere else w/o state income tax, you change your residence to there and keep it that way no matter where else you get sent.

^^

sorry, it was 13 days, looking back, not 8... but still

there's some wonky law about services performed in the state, and my company auto-adhered to it.

i was able to file for a return, and got it all back.

if it's not already done, i wouldnt worry about it.

where they're trying to get back money is from people who live out of the state, but work in the state as a primary place of employment
