You know, on ice and shit?

Because news 14 (lol) just featured a pre-recorded clip with a driving school instructor saying to steer against the direction of the turn

You’re supposed to keep the front wheels pointed in the direction you want the car to go.

You would think that, but you need to get the wheels guiding the car again by pointing them in the direction that its going to move anyway, much the same way that you quit spinning your wheels on ice/mud by letting off the gas.

you're supposed to turn into a spin if you're trying to do donuts and Arab drifting. If you want to keep your car out of the ditch, you'll do exactly as the driving school instructor stated.

better yet, stay off the road while it's frozen. it's dangerous enough driving while female.

Right.
However, you help get traction back by turning into the spin, no?

Pointing your wheels in the direction you want to go doesn't do shit when they can't move you in the first place.

I will be the very first to admit I don't know shit about driving in this mess: I stay off the damn road for a reason I'm recalling instructions from midwestern family - the kind of advice offered for "just in case". The #1 thing from everyone: If you skid, steer into it. I was kind of assuming that if my southern-bred ass knows this tidbit, it's gotta be more or less common sense?

Yes, when you first lose traction, you turn into your skid. Not for long though. What you want to do is make a quick 1/4 -1/2 turn motion with your wheel toward the spin. Hopefully, you'll gain traction and ease your way back into the direction you want to go. If not, then you're probably screwed anyway.

if you start to spin, let off of the gas, DON'T hit the brakes, engage the clutch if you have one, and turn the steering wheel in the direction you want the front end of the car to go.

i thought he said "let off the gas, and then turn the direction your rear is going"

but my lord i watched that news 14 segment over and over cause that guy was working the brows and i loved his voice

and the highway patrol officer was named "jeff gordon"

look people, you're not racing on a dirt track here.

keep the front wheels pointed in the direction you want the car to go.

each time you turn the direction you need to go, the car will overcorrect, and you'll have to readjust. but since YOUVE LET OFF THE GAS, the overcorrections will get less and less until the car slows down enough that you have control again.

Uhh.. keeping the wheels pointed where you want to go (aka into the turn aka countersteering) is how you do it in dirt racing


and yes, steering into the turn will spin you round and round. I can't think of any instance where you'd want to turn AGAINST the spin. Unless your tires have enough grip and the road is clear enough to where you come to a complete stop (sideways in the road as you may be) and try again. Countersteering often leads you into a big over-correction fiasco... then you end spinning anyways

why does it matter if the clip is prerecorded?

also, turning into a skid means turn the front wheels in the direction the rear of the car is skidding
