never understood the milk thing

if your power goes out, milk goes bad

granted, you could put it out in the snow

but water and beer are safe at any temperature

i never understood either, really

if the power goes out lots of people have gas stoves, grills, or at least can make dun dun dun....FIREEEEE

and in the event i'm not cooking, i would rather eat something else besides bread.

I was under the impression that milk and bread have excellent anti-snow properties.

from my understanding it has more to do with surviving after the immediate crisis, when grocery stores can't restock because the delivery trucks are all broken down.

when the weather calls for snow, it never fails...i actually *do* need bread and/or milk. i hate that the grocery store people think i'm making panic buys, even though i would've bought those items without the threat of wintery weather.

you may want to kill yourself now to not suffer the breadless and milkless death that snow brings.

i never got this shit.

i always have tons of food thats not frozen to eat. Milk is gross anyways. I'll be eating bush's baked beans for the next 3 days if i have to and thats fuck load better than plain bread after all the power goes out and you have to throw away all your meat/cheese

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. What I love even more is people stocking up on frozen food in the event of snow.

Frankly, most folks have a solid couple of weeks worth of food in their pantry so panic shopping is pretty unnecessary unless you legitimately believe that you're going to be trapped in your home for weeks on end.

yeah, but why milk and bread? neither are essential for survival. I guess I can understand bread. sandwiches are easy to prepare without having to use any appliances. But Milk? Even for kids, it's not essential for survival.

look y'all

folks don't go specifically for milk and bread

they go to the grocery store and get food in case they can't get out. milk and bread are things that most folks pick up at the grocery store just about every time they go.

when everyone goes at once, the milk and bread sell out and it looks like that's all that folks are buying.

nobody goes and gets just milk and bread. what you guys are overlooking is that when everyone goes shopping at the same time milk and bread are the two common products almost everyone buys.

example

i buy

eggs
frosted flakes
steak
milk
bread

you buy
beer
spighetti
milk
bread

he buys

lettuce
banana
sausage
milk
bread

when everyone shops milk and bread are going to be the basic things to run out first.

I went to Wal-Mart for groceries, and it was madness.

Normally, people have their carts filled about halfway up with a box of Twinkies hidden in the back behind the sensible items.

The snow apparently made folks go crazy and pile their carts past the brim with junk food. It was awesome.

I still think milk is targeted for purchase due to some crazy idea that the stores will run out and no milk will be available for a week.

On Friday after I received a milk delivery at around 10:00am I had already sold through a pallet by 2:00pm. That's almost 300 gallons of milk.

Some people were leaving with two and three gallons in hand.
