I need to go grab some shit from walmart which is like 1 mile away, but I don't want to die en route. It seems like the snow is powdery, but there is also a lot of rain and shit coming down now. So...who's been stupid enough to go out and get me some info?

I just went out. If you keep your speed and rpms low, it really isn't that bad.
I went to McDonalds, Blockbuster, and Michaels (friend stuck working), and back home.

There aren't that many people on the road, and they seem to be pretty responsible as well.

The city is 'plowing' the roads, which means 1'' of compacted snow/ice.

Roads are fine. They have no emotions, nor the ability to feel the cold from the ice encasing them.

Wade was pretty bad when I got off work last night, so I imagine it's pretty terrible right now. Of course, my car is a horrible vehicle for snow/ice driving (RWD Mustang with not so great tires). Needless to say, I'm not trying to drive anywhere until the roads get significantly better.

Evan, I happen to find the use of such language very offensive. I, along with members of the homosexual community, would greatly appreciate it if you would stop using that language.

You want to keep your speed low, but RPMs high. You use the engine to help you slow down more than your brakes.

I don't have an Evo...

I have just a normal Lancer though (the ES model, with the 5 speed manual).

It's a fun car.

i have returned from a glorious trip in search of beer and ramon

roads werent that bad.. one hill was pretty slick bc the plows had just gone over it and basically turned snow covered ice into just ice that was smooth as shit and still pretty thick.

shouldnt have trouble getting where you want to go though as long as you arent an idiot

I was referring to acceleration....
You just push the gas and you can spin your tires while revving at 4k.

Accelerate slowly and keep from spinning.

I don't know how many have an auto vs. manual here, but with an auto it can be much harder to engine brake. If you have a selectable gear shift, you can put it on the '3' and should be fine, maybe even '2' depending on your gearing. This will keep you at or below 3rd or 2nd gear respectively so you will have more engine braking on deceleration.

icy, if you don't have awd/4wd you are probably just gonna spin all over... you wont be making it up any hills

(chains, use them if you got them)

saw 4 cars/trucks/minivans/suvs all off the road or failing to climb a moderate grade hill...

my roommates SUV slid all the way down the very slight slope in front of the townhouse and he's from Michigan

took blue ridge/trinity tonight on the way back from working the canes game. it wasn't too bad at all, but, I was in a 4wd SUV. Not so sure how a car would do. Everything was packed down from the traffic today from NCSU/Canes

I was one of the first ppl to drive down the stretch of hillsborough passing the fairgrounds and the first to pull into my apartment complex. It's not awful, even for my forward wheel drive maxima. Went to the State game and the Canes game and drove back and forth between Meredith etc. Not bad at all if you play it safe.

Though I did see a truck slide into a car yesterday night on western & an isuzu hit an impala this afternoon. So if you drive like them, stay away.
