Ragged and I just walked to Walgreens since Harris Teeter and Food Lion closed early, to buy some beer. We get inside and to the fridge/freezer section and there is a sign posted on the beer that reads: Because of the current state of emergency declared by the governor, we cannot by law sell any beer and wine. We apologize.

What kind of shit is that? Luckily the gas station was open and selling beer!

Anyone want to spend the evening prank calling stores and telling them what products they can't sell due to the state of emergency?

Condoms are at the top of my list.

Beverly Perdue has declared a state of emergency

http://www2.wnct.com/nct/news/local/article/winter_weather_nc_gov._beverly_perdue_news_conference/102641/

but I can't find anywhere where it says its illegal to sell beer or wine during a state of emergency.

It says "and," and weren't ABC stores open today? Anyone go to one?

I would think that if the ABC stores were open, it would logically follow given the wording of that statement that it would preclude grocery and convenience stores from ceasing alcohol sales.

Also, this is just a stupid idea.

The Governor calls Walgreens and tells them to stop selling alcohol, but forgets to call the gas station within walking distance, or any other stores across the entire fucking state.

It sounds like it's only the one place that has stopped selling, but the law in general is still really weird to me.

I mean, ceasing alcohol sales is not the kind of thing you want to do during a state of emergency. I get pissed enough when I don't realize it's past two and the fridges are all sealed shut on a regular night. But state of emergency, and I'm tryna buy brew at six o'clock in the evening? Holy shit, they'd have to call in the guard to put down a revolt.
