If it is a given that we can talk about two different kinds of hip-hop or rap, then there is rap that black people tend to listen to and rap that white people tend to listen to.Some examples of rap that black kids like are Rick Ross, Bun B, Juvenile, etc...Respectively, assume that white kids are more fond of Wu Tang, DMX and Meth and Red.Given those two different styles of rap, it seems to me that MC's use the word nigger or nigga much more frequently in the music that is listened to by white people.Does this make any sense to anyone?

HOW COME BLACKS SAY NIGGER AND I CAN'T?
1/31/2010 4:43:03 PM
In my opinion, for as long as there are significant numbers of people that insist that the uttering of the word "nigger" is racist and should always be avoided and condemned, there will be racism.
1/31/2010 4:44:30 PM
its not about racism and nigger, its about where the word pops up in popular cultureI don't think that all black people are comfortable with that word, and that white people are tricked into thinking this by hearing it in what we think is black music that is actually more white than black.[Edited on January 31, 2010 at 4:51 PM. lol at Rick Ross not saying nigga excessively in his music.also, Bun B has probably made an entire album with a chopped and screwed recording of someone saying the word nigga. For the ultimate in rap that white kids don't listen to, Nas named an entire album "Nigger" and proceeded to rap about fried chicken on it.

I suspect black artists are very aware of the different demographics that different songs appeal to. Just because they know, and also because they screen the songs before they are released. And it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't purposefully make songs for mass play so they can make money in order to make less popular music that is more meaningful to them.I always reach a wall where I'm like, "Track 1, I had my hands in the air like I just don't care. And track 2, I was saying Yeah! Track 3-10? Whoa, cannot relate, not meant for me..."I dunno how the N-word plays into all this. I've read some quotes where artists are pretty forthcoming about making songs for mass appeal, but I've never heard anyone talk specifically about how they choose to use that word in order to appeal to different groups. Plus, it could be the other way around: white people seek out artists who use the N-word because they think it's more authentic.

I would imagine that I listen to both white people rap and black people rap. I'm not like a huge aficionado on the topic, but I know what I like and don't like. People have a lot of good points on here about stuff not quite related to the OP, but to give my response, I'll have to go middle of the road. It seems like, as with most debatable topics, people on both sides of the fence and those who just don't care. Some people say that, yes, black people can totally use it, only around black people. Some don't even care as long as you're cool with them, grew up with them, etc. and they know you don't mean it. Then there are those who loathe the word, and try their best not to use it. I have one friend who I was joking around with and called a wigger one time, and he got pretty offended about even using a play on the word. He'd be in that category. Some people recognize the harsh and oppressive origin of the word and choose not to use it. I have to be honest though... I'm more curious about what falls into the categories of white rap and black rap. Someone sort these for me, please (I'm going to include some popular R&B stuff too): Bone Thugs, Dizzee Rascal, All rap by white guys, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Random Impulse, K-os, Biggie Smalls, Sway, Scarface, Dow Jones (lol @ local stuff like that)
