Interesting. I can't say that I'm surprised at all. I'm sure that happens in the US, and the world over, at least the business part of it. Just in the US it's blackmail, does the article say if it's actually legal in Japan? I could definitely see parents doing it to get rid of some douchbag asshole guy, or girl; especially rich and important people. What about a 3rd option of splitting people up? Like you're the potential suitor and want to get rid of the competition? So you hire the splitter-uper to get your rival to cheat. I could see that being quite profitable.
