lol at the comments:

"Maybe the shooter was actually trying to commit suicide but kept missing her own head."

"Atheism. No consequences, no one to answer to, no one to revere. Worthless life."

"I am supposed to be heading to Huntsville in a few weeks for a business trip. After the shooting a little while back in Madison and now this...I'm a little afraid to make the trip "

Oy I live in Huntsville! I had some friends meeting up at the campus gym to play some volleyball earlier today and I was originally gonna join them but decided to have a destination weekend with my girlfriend instead. Thank you Valentine's Day! As a side note, there was a high school shooting last week too

(Luckily none of my friends were hurt)

Neuroengineering

My laboratory's goal will be to continue in our effort to develop a neural computer, the Neuristorâ„¢, using living neurons. This computer will exploit all of the advantages of neurons. Specifically, neurons rich with the nitric oxide NO dependent learning receptor, N Methyl D Aspartate receptor NMDAR, will be utilized. These have previously been studied in the context of induced adaptive resistance to NO IAR. For the Neuristorâ„¢ we will take advantage of the IAR phenomena since it has been demonstrated that IAR neurons express more learning and memory receptors NMDAR as well as increased neurite outgrowth. The neurons that we are currently using are mammalian motor neurons. We are exploring the possibility of using neurons derived from adult stem cells, and from bony fishes provided by Bruce Stallsmith Ph.D. This laboratory has created a portable cell culture incubator, the Cell Driveâ„¢ that is an ideal support structure for the Neuristor".

Amy Bishop was reportedly denied tenure. What happened after that, a hypothesis, may be that Bishop went off when she perceived the University as trying to take and profit off of an idea she developed, just as they were getting rid of her. At that point, Bishop may have went berserk.

Stay tuned.

This reminds me of an Issac Asimov story where humans were an experiment for an indescript race of “gods” and in their effort to stop us from becoming uncontrollably viral they would drive any scientist crazy when they were coming on on great ideas.

3 Biology Professors killed (AOL said the head of the department was one of them) and three more wounded on the recent update. Faculty member, et cetera. I need to go get the article, because it said "3 were killed, but thankfully no students were injured."

OH WELL AS LONG AS THOSE VALUABLE STUDENTS ARE INTACT.

The woman killed them to keep the discovery of the cure to cancer secret.

She is an agent of an elusive organization.

Oh god that's a dick thing to say. Seriously though, those Biology Profs have important roles outside of tormenting students.

no if people carried guns more people would get shot as amateurs try to shootout with the original shooter and stray bullets fly and ricochet all over the campus. Terrible idea. Also, all the people that get mad and used their permitted guns impulsively would have to be accounted for as well. Its just safer the less guns you have.

mambagrl- please do not reply to this thread anymore. You have no solid evidence of the claims you make actually happening. A person must be 21 years old to get a concealed carry permit. You have to go through extensive background checks, and they check your medical history for mental health problems.

People with CHP (concealed handgun permits, NC terminology) do not go running toward gun fire. That would be stupid. We are able to protect ourselves, and by extension those immediately around us. You would never know we had a firearm until you were thanking us for saving your ass. And don't try and turn that into us being police or wanna-be heros. See if we weren't there beside you, then you still wouldn't know we had a firearm, or you would be dead.

As far as ricochets: Have you seen what most bullets (out of standard sized pistols) do when bounced of of objects? They very quickly become non-lethal. I'm not saying that no one has died from a ricochet, but that is it highly unlikely.
Now, about those impulsive ass holes going around getting pissed: That doesn't happen. You see, people all around you every day could have a firearm on them. You never know. You don't see "shoot outs in the streets" and it doesn't turn into "the wild west." See this is a common argument with zero basis in reality.

As a matter of fact, a person with a concealed carry permit is less likely to be convicted of a crime that a police officer. That simple fact should staple your mouth closed. If you question my fact, then you can do the research yourself to find the FBI study that shows it.
There is even a famous book titled More Guns, Less Crime. You could even check it out of a library and read it if you want to educate yourself.

Anyway, Guns Save Lives.

^Proof that there will always be someone with a CHP there to assure you of their imminent victory and heorism, then get a cap in their ass.

But seriously, mambagrl is far better at fishing than I realized, or at least the fish are really hungry.

Adding guns to the situation is only going to make it more likely that they get used. Its like non-proliferation. Most criminals use guns with no intentions to actually shoot them but to deter physical resistance and make the victims submit to their demands. Everyday people drawing guns anytime a criminal draws a gun is only going to lead to a "draw" scenario and possible shootouts.

You also talk as if people with permits shoot with 100% accuracy. Its much more likely that the person next to me who pulls a gun out on a criminal that entered the room with a gun is going to get involved into a shootout with the criminal. If this is a crowded area (even if the permit shooter is an expert it could be the criminal) somebody could miss and hit a bystander. Criminals would be much more likely to grab a human shield in the case that soemone else had a gun.

Even if all goes as you planned, you just killed the criminal just because he pulled a gun that he most likely had no intention of using. So nobody had to die and now the criminal is dead with blood on your hands.

Its better off and much safer to just let the criminal get what they want and leave.

This is a rare case of gun use where criminals enter the game looking to shoot and kill multiple people and your whole argument seems to be on the basis that people are going postal everyday.
