So I had to get a new battery in my car yesterday...then when I finally got everything put back in the proper spot I get in my car and go to class and I notice my gas gage is fucked up...it looks like the 2nd one....someone tell me how to fix that

gauges are lame...gages are much more cooler!
2/16/2010 8:56:27 AM
it would probably help if you stated what type of car it is

sometimes my tach will stop working...i'll be going 60mph with 500rpm usually it'll start working the next time i turn on the car...happens couple of times of year for the past couple of years*shrug*
2/16/2010 8:57:47 AM
did you turn the car on
2/16/2010 8:58:41 AM
^ my saturn is the first car i've owned (out of 3, which isn't many, i guess) where the gas gauge goes to "empty" when the car is turned off...my other cars just stayed wherever the needle was when it was turned off
2/16/2010 9:00:03 AM
Yeah....I turned my car on a few times since then...like it's not that it's just stuck sitting down at the bottom...there is a little peg that it is normally on top of but now it's under it...like it's stuckis there some way for me to open the window up and moved the thing a ma bob on top of it again?that little black dot in my picture is the peg and the thing is all like "oh no I can't get over it what will I ever do with myself"[Edited on February 16, 2010 at 9:03 AM. my favorite part is that she drew two separate gauge faces instead of copying the first before drawing the needle

2/16/2010 9:04:02 AM
hold down the trip button while you turn the car to run. That usually does a guage cycle test and can fix it. Assuming it has a digital odometer....
2/16/2010 9:05:32 AM
put gas in the tank
2/16/2010 9:06:43 AM
one time i was driving a vehicle from charleston to charlotte where the gas gage wouldnt go below like a 1/4 tankran out of gas...luckily i was already to westinghouse blvd exit on 77

2/16/2010 9:29:36 AM
i've had a speedometer stick because of the cold in the past.
2/16/2010 9:35:26 AM
what she's failed to really get across is the fact that the gauge needle is stuck under the stop peg.... she's wondering how to fix that...a new battery shouldn't have affected this at all...
2/16/2010 11:36:28 AM
Clearly you posted this in the proper forum on TWW...
2/16/2010 11:39:40 AM
that too
2/16/2010 11:40:19 AM
punch the instrument panel. that worked when i drove a piece of shitthat being said, buy a non-piece of shit
2/16/2010 11:43:09 AM
Might help if the instrument panel wasn't made in MS paint.

so then I get into my car today and it looks like this before I turn it on...I'm thinking of doing some exploring...I saw a screw that looked to be keeping that little glass thing in place and I may just take that out and see if that works...or I'll also do the smart thing and tell my dad about it and let him fix it.
2/16/2010 1:11:14 PM
just use the eraser tool to remove the peg and then use the paintbrush tool to redraw it under the needle
2/16/2010 1:11:41 PM
well I mean if any of y'all needed to see a picture of my car here is what it looks like...

I know someone who had a similar problem on an impala. The speed-o-meter would sit at idle on 80 mph and go up to like 140 mph on the highway. lol I don't remember how they fixed it, but I think the dealer took care of it pretty quickly.
2/16/2010 7:05:30 PM
loose is fast. Youre good.

I realize this thread is about those who have a broken gas gauge.... which I do not. Hear me out, maybe I can offer some insight. When a car has a problem, it actually has many problems. I have fixed many problems on my car and many others. I am willing to take a look at your gauges, and if I can't fix the problem then maybe I can do something else. We could do something in the backseat for sure.
2/16/2010 7:57:05 PM
did the car actually overheat or is your gauge cluster fucked up. it's common on some cars like my friend's sister's old 97 Grand AM
