yes, a cat tree. don't judge me.

i'm breaking down and purchasing a cat tree to give my kitties more height and places to rest/scratch (keep in mind i have a dog they like to get away from).

not purchasing at petsmart or other pet store because you can buy like a 3ft scratching post there for like $70. whereas overstock and amazon have really cool 5 or 6ft trees for <$100. i kinda want it to fit off to the side in a corner so i'm not looking for something like super large (some of the kitty condos are insane, but luckily the big ones aren't in my price range). height is the main thing with lots of little platforms/nooks.

so if you were a cat, what would you want (feel free to make suggestions) so far i'm leaning towards:

$82.99 34 in. L x 24 in. W x 64 in. H (and it is actually 62.99 on amazon so i'd order it from there)

this one seems okay, but i don't like it as much as the first and its about the same dimensions:

$90.99 38 in. L x 24 in. W x 66 in. H

this one seems good for a corner space but its a little more expensive:

$109 and 36 in. L x 32 in. W x 74 in. H

this one is kinda cute:

$104 36 in. L x 20 in. W x 62 in. H

ANYONE? THOUGHTS? SUGGESTIONS?

well i have 2 cats and a dog and bfs cat is probably coming to stay with me for awhile so i NEED a kitty condo

and i know cats who love their kitty hammock. i really like that one but its over $100 and these things are going to cost like $25 to ship which blows. BUT still. might be worth it.

i know i know. but i don't have the time or resources for this. i have no tools, no yard, no area to build. and i've checked craigslist and i can't find any useddddd ones for sale. someone sell me their used cat tree?! i'm taking a big one not like a 3 footer.

i've had that last one actually. mine never used the hammock and the top part started to lean after a year or so. the carpet/fur on the flat surfaces is REALLY thin. it's not carpet at all really. it got kinda matted looking after a while. i think they would have liked carpet better b/c it would have been softer.

i paid $65 for mine though

Doesn't matter. If your cat is anything like mine it will sniff it once then won't use it.

^^ thanks for the input that is helpful actually

^ mine (all 3 of them) would use it...they like high spaces. even just to perch on. maybe not the hammock part though.

I built several badass cat trees back in the day. I have a cardboard tube someone can HAVE if they are going to build one... it's thick cardboard used for concrete pouring... tube has a 12 inch diameter and is about 5 ft long.

I'm a fan of cat trees without carpet. Mine has plenty of rope wrapped around it for them to tear to pieces, but it doesn't train them to scratch on/near carpet.

I like the second one the best, but only because it looks most designed for epic cat fights, and for them to fall off attacking those balls on a string with no surface below them, and that ring thing on top that is pictured with a kitten in it would be rather humorous when its full of fully grown cat(s) drooping out.

yea that is the thing about the carpet i don't want them learning to scratch on carpet or upholstery period

i do have a tree that the baby climbs (like an actual house plant tree). hmmm. i don't know.

i browsed petsmart today but everything there is even MORE of a rip off than the ones i posted. maybe i will just see how it goes for awhile before i purchase. i have lots of windows with DEEP window sills (like a foot deep) so they can lounge in those.

i just feel bad that i don't really have anything for them to climb. the highest they can get is the back of a chair or couch.

I read this as khcadwal saying that she needs help getting her cat out of a tree. Most people on here I would just at that, but in this case I just thought to myself, "it figures."

seems like this shit only encourages the cat to jump on the counters--thereby giving me an excuse to hit it over the head with a ladle....i like it

I would choose #2 over the other ones. Mainly because it reminds me a lot of the one my parents had until their dog decided it would be fun to knock it over and destroy it while the cats watched menacingly. I think the cats put him up to it.

watch out gunzz. She's accident prone.

One time I went over to her house to help her move some furniture. I left without a penis.

Put a ceiling-height piece of carpet or rug on the actual wall (by nailing it to the wall studs,) and add a few shelves for perches.
Zero footprint!

My wife and I got one off E-bay. If you search for cat trees a lot will come up listed for $.99. All you have to do is pay for shipping and you have to put it together when it arrives but it isn't bad at all. Shipping is around $85 dollars so it isn't much different than buying from a store. We also have ours in a corner and it fits there really well. Guess the only thing we don't like is that if you have a heavier cat it can shake a bit when the cat climbs it, but we've never had a problem with it falling over, and if you're concerned you can always just put some weights on the bottom of it.
