I'm thinking to leave the raleigh area early wednesday, and head back either mid-day thursday, or, if I can get off work, friday afternoon.

I like eating Okra with a tall glass of Coke to drink
2/26/2010 4:28:53 PM
I dont work hard all year to pretend like I am homeless for a weekend
2/26/2010 4:57:30 PM
Oh whatever...it's not pretending your homeless it's spending time outdoors and enjoying it.

2/26/2010 5:02:49 PM

2/26/2010 5:36:17 PM
Well, I trust you've camped out at Ocracoke before, so I won't pretend like you're stupid. But you'd be stupid to camp at out there until it gets a little warmer.
2/26/2010 5:38:08 PM
i dont think the campground is open until april or sometime around there, last time i checked it was closed from oct- sometime in the spring.
2/26/2010 5:51:05 PM
^Yeah, I found that out definitively (the NPS page is ambiguous: "open such dates"; for ocracoke, [reservation range outside of "open such dates"])So I don't know where I'm going to camp...I'm not deciding til tuesday - including the "if" I'm going camping...everyone keeps pussying out because it's "cold!" /
2/26/2010 6:15:07 PM
Theres a campground behind the gas station (Beachcomber) that is open year round. You can probably stay in a real room at Edwards of Ocracoke for $10 more a night. They have internet, as does the coffee shop a block over.[Edited on February 26, 2010 at 6:37 PM. Reason : .]

If I wanted to freeze my balls off, I'd just turn the thermostat down to 60 and rock it out in the boxers. I ain't tryna be cold in the sand and early night. feck that
2/26/2010 6:49:18 PM
so what's the status of driving on the beach at ocracoke now? we did pretty good surf fishing there a few times.
2/26/2010 6:50:34 PM
I think at the moment its relatively open, but in March 15 seasonal closures occur, restricting movement to 100 feet from the mean tide line. Hatteras Inlet is totally closed.
2/26/2010 7:02:48 PM
I wish I had one of those silde in campers and a 4x4 truck that would be the way to camp.
2/26/2010 9:58:45 PM
i like bathrooms and running water.
2/26/2010 10:35:33 PM
i've never been camping
2/26/2010 10:38:52 PM
2/26/2010 10:39:18 PM
I usually do my beach camping elsewhere, but any place like Ocracoke you're going to want to wait until late March AT LEAST or you'll freeze your ass off. It's the wind that gets me the most though, but that's something you gotta deal with anyway.
2/26/2010 10:41:19 PM
actually, this is really tempting, damn work/class.10 a night??? That might be worth a trip by myself just to get away. Actually, I've been looking at going to NYC or somewhere by myself. I think the idea of lone travel has a lot of potential.[Edited on February 26, 2010 at 10:42 PM. Reason : ^wind proof gear...]
2/26/2010 10:42:30 PM
^Yea, and it's still annoying as hell sometimes, wind gear or no.
