http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/02/27/360919/white-teams-step-show-victory.html

pretty messed up how the reverse racism is going. Both the people that scored them higher "for a white girl" and the people that don't think whites should be able to win are terrible.

How long until they make a movie out of this?

"On Thursday, sponsor Coca-Cola announced "scoring discrepancies" and said the runner-up - the Alpha Kappa Alpha team from Indiana University, whose members are black - would share first place and receive the same $100,000 in scholarship money that the Zeta Tau Alphas won.

It was unclear what the discrepancies were, and Coca-Cola would not elaborate. The tournament began in September with regional qualifying rounds across the country.

Boycott Coke.

Coke cares more about image and public relations than they do about playing "fair".

They're in a tough spot.

I'm not sure they have a better course of action.

"stepping" was stupid 15 years ago in high school, and its stupid now.

it was held in Atlanta, in order to avoid riots in the streets, Coke really had no choice.

What a shame. An all white group, very good at what they do, should be happy for there performance and hard work. But Coke and the black population has just proven to them that when they get through with there education and have entered the work place, they should crush every non white person before they get the chance to crush them. The white teem was GOOD. Better than the competition. So....Because they are not black they have to suffer. Wake up America! Blacks in this country have had enough free ride programs to last 20 life times. And when they are beat they cry race. Well a great lesson for the White students in the USA. It's not how much you work or how smart you are, it's what color your skin is. Great lesson for the 2nd place blacks in the competition also. Don't worry about winning. Being black and drinking Coke will get you the same $100,000.00 as if you actually deserved it. GREAT JOB COKE.

This is the stuff that frustrates me

Instead of celebrating the fact that others are interested in your culture enough to engage in it, you'd like it to be closed off. This is anti-American and I wish someone would call them out for this behavior.

Blacks aren't excluded from singing country (wait, is Darius Rucker really black though lol?) why should whites be excluded from step, or jazz music, or gospel music, or anything else rooted in black culture?

Charlie Pride is a better example. Plus it can be argued that part of country music's roots are in blues aka "black" music.

But lets be honest here, you don't go to Merle-Fest expecting it to be a mixing bowl of cultural diversity

And? Maybe black people don't prefer country music for any number of reasons.

does coke really think that a relative few pissed off black people ( or any color ) will hurt their sales that much? nobody really ever boycots anything, and who the hell cares who won a step competition? if no one had said anything, the whole deal would blow over in a day.

First of all, not all (probably not even most) black people feel this way. I read discussions about this on several black blogs and most people said "I guess AKA needs to step up their game". They also felt it was lame that Coke went back and changed the results.

Here are the performances in case anyone is interested

as long as certain things are considered "black", there will always be racism.

the matrix? really? way to be current, girls.

but after watching bits of each routine . . . to an untrained eye, they both are good. the AKA squad seems like they might be a little more technical, where as the other group more creative.

I'm curious what the black "leaders" think...the Sharptons, Jacksons, and Barbers of the world, because for now, they are still the loudest voice here and the ones people end up focusing on.

Over time, I'd expect our culture to continually move away from bullshit like this, when the old guard dies and the young bucks step in and tell us how stupid these people were.

^The media loves a controversy, so even if Sharpton and Jackson don't care, they'll find someone who does and make them famous.

The only difference: A clip of a black George Wallace being shot would be shown in Forrest Gump instead of a white George Wallace being shot.

We tried that in the 50s. Black people had their own things everywhere and you people were still pissed.
