To someone that lost a baby 4 weeks into the pregnancy after struggling with infertility for a couple of years? I'm not terribly good friends with her, but she's a coworker and i feel obligated to say something. "sorry for your loss" doesn't seem appropriate.

Mylarit shows that you care. plus, the balloon knot on latex balloons looks like a puckered asshole.

Just say sorry for your loss. My mom lost a baby and she said people would turn around in the hallway to avoid talking to her. I made her even sadder.

4 weeks?im sure she was excited since she struggled with infertility but that first trimester is so hit & miss.. thats why most people wait til they hit the second trimester before telling anyonejust be nice to her i guess and dont bring it up but dont avoid her[Edited on March 1, 2010 at 9:17 PM. Even if it's early on, it's still very painful and difficult to deal with. It's even more so when you've been struggling to get pregnant. It's the loss of hopes, dreams, and possibilities.
3/1/2010 9:19:26 PM
I think they have those $1 'sorry you lost your kid' gifts for sale on FB

YOU POST A THREAD ASKING WHAT TO DO.
3/1/2010 9:20:19 PM
i think i'll throw a FB sheep at her. everyone likes having FB sheep thrown at them. in all seriousness, how is something like "hey, sorry things didn't work out, I know you were really excited"? or do you treat it more like a death in the family?

this is why you dont share the fact that you are having a baby with co-workers until you are near the end of the first trimester at the earliest, so many things can go wrong and the last thing you want is to have to deal with the loss and then have people you dont really care about offering condolences.I would say not to bring it up, just be nice to her. She has her close friends and family around to offer support and talk to, the workplace should be an environment where she doesnt need to think about it [Edited on March 1, 2010 at 9:25 PM. this has happened TWICE at my work in the last two months but i did find that the best action is to of course, not avoid them, but not act overly chummy.i usually just went with a, "so, how ya doing?" ...this let each of them tell me what they wanted (or didn't want) but let them know i cared.
3/1/2010 10:23:01 PM
^^yeah, in general, she's really not a "discretion is the better part of valor" type of girl^sounds like the best plan. we've sort of become work buddies, not really close, but bullshit around with each other enough to be more than just colleagues. [Edited on March 1, 2010 at 10:26 PM. Reason : .]

I was so excited that I told everyone that I was pregnant as soon as I found out.
3/1/2010 10:25:33 PM
yeah i mean one of these was a set of twins that were born and died an hour later (way too premature)and the other was about 16 weeks along but verrry few people at work even knew. so kinda not the same but i think the attitude still applies.plus, if she is all about everyone being up in her business then sounds like she would at least like to have some recognition of the loss.[Edited on March 1, 2010 at 10:42 PM. yeah, if you're not really close to her, then don't bring it up. Just be nice and shit. My mom worked at a hospital when she lost her baby and I think that makes for a different situation. Furthermore, she was friends with pretty much everyone.
3/1/2010 10:36:53 PM
i wouldn't even bring it up if you aren't close with her. perhaps a "sorry for your loss" and then never ever bring it up again. ever.
