OMG, earthquakes are on the rise!!! This is a direct result of human traffic from cars, railroads, foot-traffic and motorcycles and maybe an increase in African Grey Elephant and Black Rhino population!!!!!! These lead to increased plate movement on the earths surface!!!!!! Quick, we should all stay home and not move all day otherwise chaos will ensue!

^^ yeah and since this appears to be a total, not just major then a larger seismic array makes a big difference. in the early 1900s we missed a lot of smaller ones that occurred in the ocean and other places people frequently aren't present to feel them, so of course the number is dramatically larger for the last decade.
