EVERYONE drinks on the train. As far as I know, there is nothing illegal about it and no reason to hide it.I'm sure Google could answer this question for you though.
3/4/2010 5:19:51 PM
not that I remember. Just put them in your pockets to be safe.

3/4/2010 5:21:39 PM
The only way to be safe is to stash them rectally

It states in Amtrak policy that you are not supposed to bring your own alcohol on board, but I, as well as many others, brought our own and were never once confronted by Amtrak employees. So if you have an Amtrak person who is a nazi, then it might be an issue. Play it safe, keep it on the DL.Oh, and remember if you're on the DC metro, you can't have a beverage of any kind.

I've taken the train to high point before, and my girlfriend used to ride it a lot too. It would be very easy to have some booze in you bag and pour drinks. The amtrak employees don't patrol up and down the aisle like chaperons. They don't check your bag.
3/4/2010 5:59:49 PM
it's a good way to pass the time while you're stuck in the middle of nowhere because there's cows on the tracks--a deck of cards helps too
3/4/2010 6:03:39 PM
they don't check your bags. I used to ride amtrak a good bit, and I'd take food and drinks on there and nobody ever said a word. You're only going to see an actual amtrak employee a few times once you're on. They'll come by to get your ticket (yeah, they don't take your ticket until after the train is on its way), and they'll come by to announce stops here and there.Take something to eat with you as well. Amtrak food sucks, and if you get stuck or something it can take way longer than you may think.I used to take to train from Raleigh to Wilmington, DE and back a few times a year. Trip is scheduled for 8hrs each way. It's taken as long as 14hrs. And almost always took longer than 8. Even if you don't think you'll be hungry in the amount of time it should take to get to DC, take something just in case.[Edited on March 4, 2010 at 6:25 PM. Reason : .]
