Had a bit of an argument about this today but not going to reveal which side I was on (as you guys would clearly choose opposite)

If you lift weights to teh point where damage is done and you are sore the next day, many believe that soreness will grow into stronger muscle and you must sit out until soreness is gone (as to not damage damged tissue, preventing growth)

Many people (all over google, real deal doctors too) say this is a myth and that the cause of doms has recently been discovered unknown and the best way is to not have doms and workout more than 3 days a week.

Theres all kinds of stuff on google.

What do you guys think?

delayed onset muscle soreness

how can it be beneficial? DOMS occurs a day to 2 days after the workout. It's not the same as over-exerting your muscles and feeling immediate pain, which is definitely NOT helpful at all.

Oh! Yeah. ^what he said. I think it depends upon the level of soreness. If I'm too sore, I just don't work that muscle group. However sometimes you can work through the soreness and it goes away later that day. It's an instinct about yourself that you just develope over time. Is that at all helpful?

honestly don't care. If you guys want to give me the incentive, fine. I've already done everything else before. When I first came online nobody believed the story I had a snake. BOOM. i posted my snake. When the lakers won it all everyone thought I was a bandwagon alias. BOOM. I posted pics of my celebrations with lakers stuff. Then, some fools claimed I was just a fan when they got good. BOOM. I posted a pic of little teenage me outisde the staples center. After a while, I realised I was on the internet and what the internet was and who the interneters I was dealing with were. Its not in my best interest for you guys to 100% know who I am anyway.

I've been involved with fitness for a long time, and used to be a heavy weightlifter, and this very topic has been debated over and over. I don't really know the correct physiological answer, but what I do know is that after lifting for a long time, you develope an understanding about your body and just have a feel for what kin of pain you're feeling. Whether it be a light sore pain, or an acute harmful pain. You learn to discern the difference.

It's kind of like people getting DOMS in their lower back, and going off the deep end about "throwing out" their back and claiming "oh I've got a bad back!!!"
