I was invited to have lunch this upcoming week with some of the engineers that work at the place.

Now, what do you guys think they're going to talk about or ask me.

It's a personality test. They want to know if you order the water, Sam Adams, or water first followed by Sam Adams after a better candidate orders Sam Adams.

Offer to pay for your own lunch. They will pay for it anyways and bill it to the company. Let them pay for it.
Talk about things other than technical stuff. If you're in engineering with a high GPA or passed the FE they already know that you have the technical capability.
Talk about sports (NFL or NCAA football/basketball or NHL)
Talk about vacationing (Beach or mountains or overseas)
Talk about what you do with your free time. (home projects, working on cars, etc)
Talk about some school if they bring it up.
Relax.
Don't BS them. If you don't know the answer to a question, just tell them you don't know. Admitting not knowing something is a plus compared to lying or BSing something and they call you on it.

Eat as fast as you can, then stand up and spike your napkin on the floor. They'll be impressed and probably hire you on the spot.

Consider it an interview. An informal one... but still an interview.

They want to get to know you a bit to see if you'll be a good fit for their company.

i hate lunch interviews. i'm always like, "look, i'm anxious enough as it is. now you want me to force down food without getting the nervous shits while you sit and judge me on by ability to make small talk?"

All I can say is to relax and be yourself. If they don't like that then you probably don't want to work for them.

^^^^^^ more like your ability to get along with them and fit in

It's the most important thing anyone should look for in a candidate. Thus, the lunch interview is the most important interview

we've hired everyone we've ever taken to lunch as an interview at work, its usually a good sign if we want to eat with you

We've made the mistake of hiring people who did poorly at lunch but had strong technicals skills. Turns out that technical skills are applied sub-optimally if the person can't work with a team, is not enjoyable to be around, can't easily get along with outsiders, can't handle slightly novel situations.

A lot of nerds coming out of college wrongly believe that technical skills should trump all.
