^ Elaine Marshall has been Secretary of State for awhile [Edited on March 12, 2010 at 1:21 PM. Reason : x]

^^To give more info, and follow up on what ^ said:Cal Cunningham = 36 year old former member of the NC senate w/ a military backgroundKen Lewis = 48 year old Lawyer with background in campaign fundraising, but never held political office (which some may consider a strength when running against an incumbent who has been in congress for 16 years)Elaine Marshal = 64 year old Secretary of State. She beat Richard Petty for that seat.Other = Marcus Williams, Susan Harris, & Ann Worthy who are the 2nd tier candidates for the primary (not all of them have websites, some waited until the filing deadline to start their campaigns, some said they don't expect to win but want to shape the debate)All the actual polling data gives Elaine a strong lead, with Cal in second leading only among young voters, but heavy undecided numbers. A few of them have made campaign stops on campus at NCSU. I know Cal did a few weeks ago, and I think maybe Elaine did a few months back.

why is there not a choice of "none of the above"
3/12/2010 3:06:14 PM
^Well they have the main 3 options listed out, and I think other covers the 3 minor candidates and write-ins, which basically covers all your options for voting in a democratic primary.Burr isn't included because he isn't a candidate in the democratic primary, and because you shouldn't be voting for a guy who voted against the anti-rape amendment, voted for domestic violence to count as a pre-existing condition, and who called his wife and told her to do a bank run when the recession started.

Burr is such a piece of crap. Anyone else read that article when he ran the first time detailing how he was a slumlord?

Results as of 3/15/10Cal Cunningham: 43% (494 votes)Ken Lewis: 4% (46 votes) Elaine Marshall: 51% (594 votes)Other: 2% (26 votes)Total votes: 1160 This goes along with the results the real polls are showing. Elaine as the only current office holder has the highest name recognition and is winning, Cal, as a former state senator is in second, Ken is in third, and all the rest are basically non-entities (except maybe Marcus since he ran last time, & came in third in the primary). If this continues, we'll probably see a Elaine vs Burr race in the general election.

Wouldn't it just be nice to have politicians that you can support without having to defend whether or not domestic violence counts as a pre-existing condition or not?Cal, Ken, Elaine, & Marcus made it out to a public forum in Durham today. Here are their introductory statements. Their websites obviously make for the best detailed comparisons, but you can at least see which issues they considered important enough to mention in their opening statements, and hear a little bit about each candidates background:As one of them pointed out we have less than 50 days now until the primary election.
