Husband and I are moving to DC (him next week and me as soon as our house sells) and I have no idea where to even start in the search. Any suggestions?Want: Highrise, close to metro, location near restaurants, coffee shops, shopping etc. Essentially we don't want the burbs. I'm going to be working from home so I can keep my job so safety is important too.

if it has "Heights" or "Hollow" in the name, run away.
3/12/2010 10:18:33 PM
I live in Columbia Heights. There's a really nice apartment building that opened up on 14th Street a few blocks from the Columbia Heights metro station. http://www.allegrospaces.com/Edit: Columbia Heights really has improved based on what I've heard. I've been here since June, and I've never once felt unsafe or anything. Just like any city there are places you want to avoid, for sure. [Edited on March 12, 2010 at 10:21 PM. Reason : ]

If you get in Highrise, make sure you don't hit the left stick when trying to make the jump to the broke scaffold/ladder
3/12/2010 10:22:51 PM
keeps the rent low too!
3/12/2010 10:22:58 PM
I went to a party in Columbia Heights. It was pretty sweet.
3/12/2010 10:23:52 PM
because im feeling benevolent todaythis blog is pretty onpoint about showcasing the neighborhoods: http://www.welovedc.com/but you will probably end up moving to arlington with all the douchebags. also, dont come to my neighborhood.
3/13/2010 1:38:52 PM

allegro looks pretty legit. Anyone know much about Millenium at Met park? (yes, Arlington)
3/15/2010 12:36:48 PM
^ brand new development of apartments and condos super close to the airport. not actually as close to the metro as it looks from their map. definitely a lot of stuff going up around there.
3/15/2010 12:38:52 PM
I really like Silver Spring.
3/15/2010 12:40:16 PM
suckered into Arlington with the douchebags. I just couldn't hellllllp it http://www.metmillennium.com/[Edited on March 26, 2010 at 9:16 AM. Reason : link]
3/26/2010 9:16:06 AM
Arlingtonians are sure to be super nice to you with that attitude
3/26/2010 9:19:46 AM
You didn't want to move into Arlington because of the douchebags, but you moved into the douchiest new apartment complex in Arlington?DOES NOT COMPUTE
3/26/2010 9:23:15 AM
I actually never said I didn't want to move to Arlington. I appreciate you playing, however.
3/26/2010 9:25:36 AM
I was simply playing to this lovely quote
3/26/2010 9:26:38 AM
stay away from tysons corner. so much construction there and the traffic is horrible
3/26/2010 9:31:55 AM
Haha yea it's pretty bad. I live about a mile from tysons
3/26/2010 9:36:24 AM
move to where the construction is, because the minute you find a place that isn't under construction the city will start a new project. At least the areas under construction now are halfway done already.
3/26/2010 9:54:12 AM
3/26/2010 10:36:18 AM
not too much space around us for a ton of construction. It's right on the Potomac so it's pretty much developed. Looking forward to Nordstrom being within walking distance
3/26/2010 3:10:06 PM
well, atleast youre yellow/blue line arlington and not 66/orange line arlington.but based on ^, thank you for living in NoVA where you belong
3/26/2010 3:20:45 PM
