unless you are using this to replace paper plates, what exactly is green about this? pizza boxes can't be recycled because of the grease, wouldn't a true green design be one that is reducing waste.

but i don't see paper plate usage for pizza as a big enough issue to warrant all of the praise and awards

..not just paper plates. -- If you use dishes, you're saving water, soap (that's likely petroleum-based,) and possibly energy if you use hot water.

And it's made from 100% recycled materials.

Plus, the thing folds in half to save the leftovers -- again saving a dish and/or aluminum foil or plastic wrap.

It's not much, but at least it's something....

i think what some people fail to realize when criticizing green design

is that the model for the redesign is "every little bit helps"

not "let's make this **** a zero-waste product"

while deluded hippies used to try and get to the latter, the green movement is slowly being taken over by reasonable people who know that the former is the only legitimate way to make a difference

pizza boxes by most chains already contain 100% recycled content.

i like the box, its a cool design, but they just called it green so it would go further in the press

to be fair, the thought of eating my pizza off strips of brown cardboard does not really appeal to me

there's your answer. seems fairly obvious why they called it "green". not just a publicity stunt, they actually did something.

The fact that bottom folds up is compelling evidence of useful greenness. I can't fit an entire box in my fridge, and some folding power will prevents the use of plates/foil for storage. If you consider the amount of delivery pizza we consume in this country, the folding mechanism would create meaningful savings for the environment.

But the top coming apart for plates is useless. You have to be able to close the top to keep the heat in, and having squares of the top missing will prohibit the heat retention capability that I desire in a pizza box.

(I'm using all sorts of words in a weird/off manner, but my brain feels weird right now, and y'all know what I mean anyway.)

I see two definite problems here.

1) ranch and/or other toppings have no 'lip' to get caught. It's gonna end up on your lap.

2) the pizza will now get cold faster. how is that an improvement?

That's exactly what Na'vi pizza boxes look like.
