Ever notice you're surrounded by pale, obese people in the Houston area? there's a reason for that... They, however, if you ever engage them in conversation, have no clue why they are the way they are. If you're happy with it, go with it, but seriously, you're telling me you have no clue whatsoever?

Houston is the most God-awful big city in the US. My sister lived there for a few years and every time I visited I wanted to leave after like five hours. Summers are just brutally awful.[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 11:55 AM. Reason : texas as a whole sucks balls\]

i suspect it being too hot to go outside when you have delicious, delicious AC to be part of the problem 300 days a year
3/22/2010 12:02:51 PM
I found it tough to even get the desire to run/play basketball outdoors in Florida in the summer... Houston is even worse.
3/22/2010 12:03:40 PM
I've lived in Houston for a summer and Orlando for 3 summers. The heat is no excuse. Work out in the mornings or evenings. Or go to an air-conditioned gym. Or get on a bike. You'll sweat more, but just drink plenty of water and you'll be fine. Also, just don't eat so much. You don't have to work out as hard if you don't eat as much food.
3/22/2010 12:05:51 PM
I'm just saying... I'm a really motivated person when it comes to that stuff and even I had to force myself to work out outdoors... I can imagine someone less motivated would just say screw it.

Sorry, I just get pissed when I hear excuses like that (not that you were making that excuse, but I hear it all the time and it's just annoying). People complain about how they look but are unwilling to go through a little discomfort to get in shape.
3/22/2010 12:09:49 PM
Like how 2/3 of TWW complains about how they never get laid as they type from a laptop perched on the armrest of their Lazy Boy surrounded by Mountain Dew cans and Hot Pocket crisping sleeves as Japanese Manga plays in the background and they really have to use the bathroom but fuck getting up, this empty YooHoo bottle will suffice?

Nah. There are certainly days in North Carolina where the heat and humidity are oppressive but nothing like Texas and Florida, IMO. And it's nowhere near as bad in New England or the west coast. And I don't make excuses, that is why I don't live there! I do eat crap food like pizza way too much and drink way too much wine/beer... but I'm never giving those up. If it means I never burn off that last tiny bit of fat (which isn't much anyway) then so be it.[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 12:20 PM. Reason : x]

I imagine it would be quite similar, even though residents of the two states would probably have you think they're polar opposites. Much like how most NC people regard SC as a relative backwoods shithole, yet anyone from another part of the country lumps us together as the comedic workings of Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy come to life.

3/22/2010 12:25:22 PM
I lived in Houston for a few years. It's not the heat that caused problems for me, because I grew up in the Louisiana swamps and then lived in North Carolina, and it's not that much worse. It's the fact that it rains so damn much and so damn hard for a few months. I can go out in the heat, but going out in a flash flood is not much fun.

All it takes is a little willpower, water, and maybe a little powerade. You'll get used to humidity as your body gets conditioned to it. You'll hate it while doing it, feel better after, and in time you can't wait to do a couple to a few times a day. You'll gain confidence and feel a little sore but stronger for it. The endorphins will kick in with a lot more energy. The results are only a motivator. You should be working out because your body needs it ... Period.
