So I just happen to be perusing facebook, and I decide to type in the names of random people I have known and see if anyone's on. Well, I type in the name of a girl I dated briefly several years ago, and then I see her facebook photo shows that she's pregnant!

It's a hidden profile, and I'm not gonna do the whole friend request thing to see it, but I have to admit, that shocked the hell out of me. I remember she was having a lot of identity issues (we were never really serious, and she talked about the possibility that she thought she might try out women), and I notice that one of the groups she was a part of was a Gay Marriage group.

There was no guy in the picture with her, and I'm wondering if maybe she is now hitting for the other team and decided to get herself a baby. Either way, it was surely a shock to the system. Anyone ever have this kind of thing come up? I mean, some people you expect it from as time goes on, but I was never expecting this girl to be a mom. It's kind of scary.

yep.

it's just life man.

some of them, yeah, no way in HELL i could imagine them being good mom's if they hadn't grown up a bit.

but maybe they did. either way, not my problem anymore.

it must be a shock to one's system to find out that a woman may become pregnant.

I usually don't find out through Facebook. Most girls just call me to tell me the kid is mine.

that's still not that weird. people get older and a lot of them have kids. regardless of whether you dated her in the past or who she used to be, it shouldn't creep you out. that's just life.

yeah, and that ^. i'm not gay and i'm married, but i have gay friends and support gay rights & marriage...

I dated a girl for almost 3 years and 4 months after we broke up she was pregnant by her old middle school bf. For this reason + my last ex I think I will become a priest, even though I hate Catholics.

Naw, it's just that right after we stopped dating, we still talked a bit as friends, and she mentioned she was going to date women because she had always been interested.

Hehe...yeah, if I actually felt I did, it would be rough, but I don't think that was the case. I had a friend who dated a girl and she became a lesbian later, and it totally screwed with his head. Honestly, she always had some inner turmoil that really prevented us from ever getting serious at all, and I think she may have just been figuring out what she wanted...meaning, she wanted the vagina.

What's weirder? When the SO's ex friends you on FB and you find out she's preggo. Then you think about the timeline and realize that in a little over 2 years she found a new guy, convinced him to get married, AND convinced him to knock her up. No fucking way I'd want to have a kid with someone I'd been in a relationship with for 2 years, even if I wanted kids.

Also, a friend from high school got married about a year ago and got knocked up within a month of getting married. I put her on ignore because that catholic baby machine mentality is too much for me.

^^^ Divorce without kids is painful but quick. Once the spawn start popping out no matter how much someone makes you hate them, you have to deal with them for the next 18 years. A woman could be fucking your best friend AND your boss, and when you find out and divorce her most likely she'll still get custody and most of your paycheck. If I was a guy there's no way I'd commit financial suicide with someone I'd been dating for less than 3 or 4 years.

^^^True. For a man, there is almost no incentive to get married. Why would I want to attach financially crippling lifetime consequences to a break up?

you people talk as if you have any experience with this

if you were married or actually with someone you cared about (other than yourselves) you might understand why they dont want to wait 3 or 4 years to start a family

I got married after 3 years of dating and wondered if that was too soon. Keeping your freedom is a lot easier than getting it back. I care about the SO and wanted to make sure that we were together because we loved each other and not because we were trapped. Sounds like you have not met someone that you really cared about, and selfishly want to chain them down for your own happiness possibly at the expense of theirs.

+1 I would not get serious with a guy that was not OCD over preventing kids. No way I want the guy's previous SO to show up down the line and steal what we have for back child support. I still do not understand how he dated the baby crazy woman for as long as he did.
