I, too, will be throwing around applications for jorbs soon.I want to move back to Raleigh and back to civil/structural engineering. It can be so god damned awful where I work right now sometimes (both where I work and the area around it). I haven't had a direct supervisor since November and I haven't had a senior engineer directing half of my projects since January. I've nearly been killed once, been put into a ridiculously dangerous situation that's still ridiculously dangerous (even right fucking now the area I'm thinking of is not properly secured and people still wander through there), and spend most of my days worrying about a bunch of projects that demand attention (but won't get it for months if not years) because they're related to equipment/structures/areas that put human lives at great risk in their current condition.I just want a 80% office/20% field work job designing things under direct supervision working with a bunch of nice folks and in an environment that is both safe and professional.

^ That sounds like a super shitty job you have right now Good luck in your job hunt!

It's not super shitty though. I get paid a lot for a civil engineer at my current job. The main issue is that it's the federal government, and I am a centrist leaning ever so slightly libertarian. Money and benefits don't 100% make the job awesome, though. I've had a lot of panic attacks and other things trying to come to terms with how dangerous things are here, how my job performance may directly affect whether people get killed, and dealing with the situations I've already been in where my life or personal safety were in danger. I'm trying to get back into a company I interned with about a year ago. I already know how awesome that place was and would be very happy there again if they could offer me a position. <3Still, though, I hope your job/career searches work out as well!

Try the Army... They're always hiring!
3/29/2010 2:14:08 AM
Not always for what you want tho. I applied for an R/D position... Any position (also with the airforce). Got no interest shown
