there are...A couple of the one I've seen roam around near our house off Falls Lake. The other recent time I've seen them, it was a group of them in the middle of bum fuck nowhere in Person Co.

There are a few that live in the woods about 3 miles up the road from my house. Every morning in the spring/summer I see them out in the field eating. Pretty neat[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 7:15 PM. Reason : a]

My husband was chased by a peacock on our first date. I just stood there and pointed and laughed.

my uncle had some roaming around his property. He lives on like 180 acres though. Cool thing is that he could capture them and take them somewhere for like $50 each.

there's a ton of them down near where I live where Wake, Durham, and chatham county meet. I see 'em all the time roaming around on Wake Road.
3/29/2010 8:17:39 PM
I'm guessing these are peacocks that have gotten loose from wherever and have become wild?
3/29/2010 8:19:57 PM
most likely. they are not native to this area, and i don't think they have many natural predators. so they probably multiply pretty quickly. I've seen them roaming around the cisco campus as well.

we just learned of the altruism of male peacocks in class today

North Carolina doesn't have wild peacocks. We have ferrell peacocks that were domesticated and have gotten loose. We used to try to keep them on our farm, but the bastards would always fly away.
