I tried to bump my old thread but it said i can't reply to topics more than 90days old. Whack. So here ya go

ok guys im gonna start looking for places in april, and move in may. here's my list of places to check out

RBC Plaza
222 Glenwood
712 Tucker

There's also a townhouse on blount that i'd like to see, it actually looks pretty cool

any other recommendations on cool places to live downtown? Some place with private parking preferred I don't want to have to be scavenging for street parking every time i go home

i have a condo i'm putting up for rent that is 4 blocks from glenwood south.

Quote :
"RBC Plaza
222 Glenwood
712 Tucker"

also just know that RBC Plaza and 222 Glenwood are condos although there's probably units in there for rent but they're all privately owned.

712 is an actual apartment complex.

I lived in a condo on Glenwood for a couple of years. Lots of d-bags, the HOA was a pain in the ass, and I had neighbors on the other side of my wall.

Living near Peace in a house now and enjoying it a lot more. It's about a 20 minute walk to Glenwood or Fayetteville St plus I have room for my dog, can bike everywhere, and can fart without my neighbor bitching about it.

I looked at 712 Tucker a while back. Seems like a nice place, good amenities, great location. Nice kitchens. The apartments are a little small though.

i noticed the same things about 712 when i looked at their website. the apartments are smaller but the location is nice and they look to be pretty nice.

I'm looking for like $850 MAX and I'll I've found that's livable so far are the Wilmont apartments...but they're really small for the sq. footage. I think they'll come down though

I'm just coming up dry. I've been on craigslist every day, drive around Brooklyn, Oakwood, Boylan, Hillsborough st. neighborhoods every weekend and haven't found anything good

my only criteria:
-allows my dog (5 year old GSD)
-hardwood floors
-a moderately updated kitchen (I love to cook)

bonuses:
-conceivably walking distance from a drinking establishment
-living room big enough for pool table, second bedroom big enough to be living room lol

ya i'm aware of this, i've been in contact with someone who is wishing to rent their place at RBC plaza and i've seen some ads on CL for 222 glenwood.

I'm not planning on buying anything so id imagine HOA dues are just included w/the rent.

hahahahahhahaha lord, that's nothing. i pay about $200 a month and i live 4 blocks from Glenwood South. Most of the downtown-downtown condos (West, 222, Paramount, etc) are between $350-$500 a month.

hell some of the condos in MY neighborhood go up to $500 a month because our HOA is based on square footage.

basically you get kicked out of the neighborhood. i don't know the whole logistics but to be able to live in the neighborhood you have to pay HOA. i would guess your HOA would sue you for the money.

I fell behind once when I was out of town and the HOA had a lawyer send me a letter threatening legal action unless I paid up.

They love tacking on absurd late fees as well.

that sucks. without community pool/tennis courts/etc. I wonder what the dues actually go to? assuming that the streets are city streets and not private

Check Craigslist for privately owned places. I have a 1 BR in an upstairs apartment on Boylan (behind Hibernian) that runs $600 a month, with water and trash and offstreet parking. No HOA dues or anything.

in my neighborhood it goes to the following (that i can think of off the top of my head):

water/sewer/trash (it's automatically included)
pool
landscaping
building maintenance (roof, siding, etc)
electric bill for the outdoor lights (we have lights on timers in the buildings that turn on when it gets dark out and then off when it gets light out)

Checked out 712 Tucker today

pretty nice place, lots amenities (hot chicks). Their 1BR units were pretty small though, if I move there I almost have to get a 2BR, which they didn't have any available so prob not gonna happen unless something opens up in May.

did you ever find a place?

I've probably checked out all the private condos in DT Raleigh by now except Bloomsbury Estates
I'm not a fan of 222 Glenwood. The floorplans are very basic and the place gives me an apartment type feel. The pool hardly gets any sunlight and the fitness room is small. The inner units have courtyard/parking deck views. There is a train behind the building that runs often and you can hear it.

RBC Plaza can't be beat. The views, the location, the amenities. Of course rent is more $$.

I personally prefer the DT proper area along Fayetteville St. more than Glenwood South.

I will be moving to G'boro later this summer, so half of my house is for rent.
2600sf, fenced in yard, dog(s) if approved by me and my other roomie (she lives downstairs)
hardwood floors and pretty nice although an older house.
By Carolina Country Club, Not quite Glenwood South, but not that far.

oh yeah real quite, it is like in the woods and on the last dirt road in Raleigh.

ya those are nice but they are for sale only and i was talking to a realtor and she said you cannot move into them until so many units are sold and they haven't sold very many so its a catch 22, nobody wants to buy w/out knowing when they can move. Same goes for the condos at the Hue. Apparently its some federal law taht was enacted during hte housing crises. Really kinda fucked downtown raleigh living environment

Bloomsbury Estates are super nice and they've come down on the prices a lot since they were originally slated to be built. just make sure you're not overlooking the prison and you should be ok

my condo in downtown Raleigh is up for rent. PM me if you are interested or know someone who might be.

i live downtown near edenton and person in a house, it's awesome. house > apt. there's a 4 bedroom house across the street from me that is for rent...great for musically inclined people who like to party, my neighbor and myself both have drumsets in our living rooms so you'd have to be ok with noise.
