He had the nerve to say that Jim Valvano was simply working off of Norm Sloan's boys and lacked the real talent to put together a team. I literally wanted to punch him in the face, even though he is one of my closest friends dad. He also said Jimmy V had one of the dirtiest mouth coaches in the ACC at the time, which is to be proud of IMO at the time.

I wish Valvano had gotten to coach Fire and Ice the rest of their careers. He had some great years at the start and just missed the Final Four a year or two after '83 also. I wish he'd gotten to coach in the ESPN era, with his personality State would've been a media darling like UNC/Duke are now.

I don't see how you can even criticize V for swearing. Gary Williams/Coach K/Bob Knight are notorious for this and you can't argue with their results.

If you are referring to the reason he was fired from State, he was really used as a scapegoat for the University, imo. I don't think it's accurate to say he "cheated."

Only thing that I think V did wrong was become AD. He had way too much on his plate and you need a separate AD to hold coaches accountable if graduation rates dip. He trusted his players too much and some of them obviously weren't mature enough to not act like idiots.

A Jimmy Johns parody thread would've been awesome though.

I think everyone realizes he could've done some stuff better (increased grad rates), but if an issue with graduation rates without any prior warnings is what gets V fired and gets this university's athletics in the state they're in then virtually every big time program since then should have the same issues we had back then. It wasn't Valvano fucking up a little as much as it was people on the NCSU BOT and UNC System Board having it out for him due to the power he was gaining.
