Yeah, I'm going to agree with vinyl here.

They announced that at the MTV awards too, right after playing Everlong...I think. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones played with them on a scaffold in NYC.

Their first album was better.

Come on, dude...Foo Fighters are a really good band. Their sound has certainly evolved, but they've put out solid stuff since their inception.

I say that as someone who saw them at the Ritz right after they came out, complete with Pat Smear. Also, the only album I've ever owned by them is the first one. I like all their stuff, though.

Their '95 XZ-38 Disintegrator Pistol-covered debut remains my favorite.

pat smear didn't play on the first album, dave played everything on it

however, i really love the second album as well

there are some good songs on the third and everything else has been pretty meh for me

as for the transition from pat, it was indeed at the VMAs, but it was on top of the marquee at radio city

he finished a song and then quit and franz stahl came out and they played another song

then pat co-hosted the VMA fashion special

it was weird

Oh, I understand the whole "bleh the first album was best" thing, it's overused. In this case, it was the 2nd album that was best, though. Since then, it's been listenable, but it feels too much like it's conforming to radio hard rock, which I don't like. This isn't to say they haven't always sounded like what you hear on mainstream rock radio at the time, they have. It's just that the tastes of radio listeners changed, while my tastes haven't. I'm just jaded.
