anybody else have this happen from time to time with certain channels? seems to only happen on the HD channels from what I can tell

Are you using a receiver? Sometimes they can introduce lag with HD audio decoding. However most come with delay controls to fix that. It can also be introduced with a slow rendering TV. Some take 20-30ms to render, which can really screw up your guitar hero score
