Apparently Lopez really wanted O'Brien (read the article linked above) because having him as a lead in will do wonders for his own show's ratings. Hence why he made it happen.

hmmm George Lopez (who isnt even funny) gets the lead-in of his life, easily boosting his ratings (at least at first until the new people realize he sucks), is totally on board with the idea yet that is the same as giving someone a time slot and then taking it back after 7 months...i dont think so.

George Lopez is funny, he's just a relative nobody (with respect to being a late night host) on a relative nothing station.

But with respect to this situation, that motherfucker is a genius.
