Fuck Raleigh.

Bocce Tratoria - Durham by Southpoint Mall.

Daniels Pizza & Pasta - On HWY 55 in Apex. Best wine and Italian food in the triangle, hands down. I've lived in this area for almost 30 years. Trust me. Fuck Raleigh. Go to Daniels and get the Penne a la casa.

I've been to Daniel's. It was good, but I don't remember being blown away or anything.

used to be. but they have (imo) declined in recent years both in how good the food is, service, and several poor sanitation ratings. the sister restaurant in chapel hill (411 west) is still good. We will probably not go back to 518.

it is easy to find fake, underwhelming italian food anywhere in the country
it is hard to find authentic, realy good italian food anywhere in the country, let alone raleigh

bella monica is pretty good, but small so you may have to wait
vivace is pretty good, but loud, with more people watching than eating
518W is ok, but parking can suck
maggianos, macaroni grill, olive garden et al = vomit

phase 1: buy silver spoon cookbook, flip to random page
phase 2:
phase 3: profit!
