My current student ID expires 12/11. I could either bring in my old one and get a new one for free, or pay $25 or so and get a brand new one.

What happens to the expiration date in each case, anyone know?

The expiration date is extended to 5 years from now. That's why you should always get a new one right before you graduate.

if you want it for discounts or especially if you want to get in football games I would get an updated picture... they've been pricks about demon eying my picture lately

if you have your driver's license to back up the name on the ID, it shouldn't be a big deal

i've never had anyone look at the pic at a football game. hell, i've seen girls use guys' IDs and vice versa.

and the only student discount i can think of that i'd actually use is the movie theater discount

for those who don't know:

if you take your old one in and just tell them the magnetic strip doesn't work anymore they will give you a new one for free

Yeah, I did the trade in. I had to get a new one because the old picture was too faded. I just didn't know if they updated the expiration date.

I got a new one and it added 4 years to my old id's date. Mine just expired last year. quite handy for discounts.

I can attest to these benefits. I luckily lost mine during spring break my senior year, unbeknown to me that when I had to get a new one it would expire 5 years later. I graduated in '07 and my ID is good until 2012. I haven't paid to go to a State football game yet due to student tickets. It still has my freshman pic on it too, which is pretty lol.

I went and got mine replaced on Monday because my face was all scratched out so they wouldn't let me rent anything at the gym. The expiration date went up to 04/15. Total win if you want to use student tickets in the future lol.

no one really looks at the exp date, that i've noticed anyway. i lost my more recent student id when my wallet was stolen, but i still have the OLD version from 2003 that i use to get student discounts at various places.
