If you had the choice to move to DC (actually Fairfax, VA) or Miami (actually Coral Gables) which would you choose and why?

Assume you would have the same job at both locations, as well as same apartment and amenities.

DC. I have more connections in that area and I'd be equal driving distance from family/friends north and south of DC.

Looks cheaper for Coral Gables to me based on my housing search in DC last year ... of course, I'm thinking of Georgetown and Foxhall Village ... how expensive is Fairfax in comparison to a Georgetown rowhouse?

See, finding a place under 2k in Georgetown was really tricky last year. We rented one-bedroom (not even--it was a loft) for 2400 a month.

most people would live in glover park v. georgetown proper anyway, and the rent in glover park is not outrageous compared to the rest of the city

My ex was not the brightest and would only settle on Georgetown proper or Foxhall Village (one of the Tudor-style houses that are $$$ to rent)

Miami

b/c we've been looking at florida real estate and jobs for 5-ish years now in hopes to one day live there; though it's a far cry from where we've been looking (Sarasota or Tampa), it would at least get us in the state
