I got a decent computer at home but I recently got a new box here that blows it out of the water. I'm talking 3 screens running full HD at the same time level baller. Curious as to whether most of you have good computers at work or are still running some eMachines Pentium 2 level bullshit.

4/28/2010 10:41:21 AM
work: middle of the road Dell desktop with a failing hard drive. still enough speed to stream music/video and multiple apps without a hitch. home: high end Dell laptop widescreen with full HD/blu-ray capability. home wins.

just got a new dell laptop / docking station for workit has blue screened 3 times in the first month. home laptop flickers if you don't hold your mouth right, cord has a short in it, plug is worn out and battery life is less than 10 minutes when unpluggedhome pc has not been turned on since 2006, after replacing failed harddrivefail.
4/28/2010 10:50:19 AM
work: Core 2 Quad/Invidia FX3500/ dual 160GB drives/24" & 17" monitor (XP)home: (7) run of the mill laptop & an old pentium 4 dell desktop (xp)
4/28/2010 10:51:03 AM
my work PC becomes my Home PC every night.
4/28/2010 10:53:57 AM
work computer is decent since it has to be able to view the 3D model of the buildings and plants etc. we are designing and the model is a beast on computer resources and video resources. Rendering every single pipe, valve, wall, door, piece of equipment, all surfaces etc. causes it to be a ginormous model eventually Decent computer and video card, 2 decent monitors. Nothing I'd be bragging about, but not POS for sure either.
4/28/2010 10:54:18 AM
I don't want to brag or nothing.but i got a whopping:Intel Celeron 566 MHz processor16 MB of RAMand 200 MB hard drive
4/28/2010 10:58:11 AM
my home PC is a P4 I built in 2000. I still use it, albeit not for much.
4/28/2010 11:02:55 AM
i work (remotely) on 2 x intel xeon e5420 quad core with 16gb or ram and 2tb of storage. then we have another one of the same machine running windows. there's some small clusters too but i don't do much work on those. i also have access to a machine with a few hundred cores... i'm not sure how many b/c i'm only allowed to use 64 at a time . i connect to it w/ my dell vostro 1520 laptop, which is dual core with 4gb of ram and geforce 9300m and an ssd hard drive which i bought only so that i could use it discretely during meetings. it's bullshit that i use my own laptop though, i'm petitioning to get a workstation to use at my desk.my home computer is pretty decent, although i rarely use it anymore, but it's a quad core with some sli'd video cards that i just did b/c it was there, i've never utilized it. i think it has 4gb of ram in it.

My work computers are pretty baller. I currently have 3 of them streaming full HD on 3 separate 36" flat screens.
4/28/2010 11:11:14 AM
NiceI'm still stuck with two 19"s and a 23"
4/28/2010 11:12:36 AM
My home PCs are all pretty much pieces of shit. But I'm not on them much when I am home so it's not a big deal.
4/28/2010 11:14:20 AM
well.what machine do you want me to describe? I own both my "work" and my "home" machines. They're both used for work at various points.Desktop (home, I guess): Core i5 750 with 4GB (soon to be 8-12) of ram and a 1.5TB HD. 2 22" LCD monitors at 1650x1080 on a nice dual monitor stand.Laptop (work, again I guess): 2Ghz C2D with 3GB of ram and a tiny tiny 160GB HD. 1 external 23" LCD at 1920x1200.I prefer to work on my desktop for the moment, just because it's a beast (relatively speaking) in comparison to the laptop. But for most tasks the laptop performs admirably, and I have zero issues with it.I think this year I may end up buying an i7 based lappy, just because this one's going on 2 years old now, and I doubt Adobe's new CS5 junk will run that well on it.I do wish I had two more of those 23" monitors at home, though, instead of the 22" ones.[Edited on April 28, 2010 at 11:19 AM. Home computer is quite outdated but gets the job done... it's from 2005 but all I really use it for is messing around online, downloading music, and playing a few games on Steam. I'll probably replace it in the next few months.Work desktop and laptop are both beasts though. More RAM and hard drive space then I could ever use and I'm getting a new work desktop in June.

Home computer blows work computer out of the water.
4/28/2010 11:25:09 AM
the man in the $4000 suit doesn't even know or care about his 'computer' whatever that is....
4/28/2010 11:27:01 AM
one has pr0n and one doesn't
4/28/2010 11:35:41 AM
My personal Mac is my work Mac until my work Mac gets ordered soon.Although they did give me some decent dell laptop that sits in the corner collecting dust.

^ I'm a big fan of the Dell Precisions. When they release a Core i7 based one, I may have to drop the loot on one.[Edited on April 28, 2010 at 12:00 PM. Reason : no sooner than I say that, I see they already have. time to spend money.]
4/28/2010 11:59:31 AM
My home PC is my work PC did I just blow your mind
4/28/2010 12:00:22 PM
work PC's are shithome PC is kinda shitty, but much, much better than work PC's
4/28/2010 12:03:12 PM
my work pc is crap, but that's okay...i don't need it to be stellar...as long as i have my 3 monitors, i'm happy
4/28/2010 12:05:06 PM
first off, I work in IT so our work PCs are pretty decent. That being said, I have 3 computers at home. A cheap laptop that I bought last year during tax free weekend. I refuse to spend a lot of money on a laptop because I just don't see the point when all I use it for is movies and internet.I recently built a home theater PC to hook up to my HDTV. This PC's specs run about mid-high level but nothing state of the art.My home office desktop is pretty badass though.
4/28/2010 3:04:45 PM
There are technically four computers in my office -- I think all of them except the Dell Zino are faster than my home desktop.[Edited on April 28, 2010 at 3:10 PM. Reason : My HTPC is actually more powerful than my home desktop, come to think of it]
