the newest 48 hours that aired tonight "a killer defense" is about this girl that was in my 1L class. at the very beginning of school (like within the first month or so i believe) her mom got killed by her dad. they were either divorced or in the process of a divorce or something - i can't remember the details.

i haven't watched it yet - it was on earlier tonight - but i'm about to watch.

anyway the girl is really awesome - she went to elon undergrad and OBVIOUSLY ended up dropping out of law school (i mean, duh). then either the next semester or the next year (i'm not sure) she re-enrolled at a law school in california and just graduated (in 2 years).

the rumor was the hubby chopped off the mom's head cause they got in like an altercation over possessions in the divorce. that was just the rumor around school. i'm about to find out the 48 hours mystery TRUTH.

i know kinda freaky right

i feel so sorry for wendy (his daughter that i was in school for a hot minute with) but she is a really strong person for still graduating on time and even going back to school. i feel like i'd lose my mind.

def a tough case i understand how there was reasonable doubt

it still seems odd that he nearly decapitated her with a pocket knife though in "defense" - seems a little excessive BUT at the same time if you have a gun and someone is attacking you i'm pretty sure the instinct is pick up the gun and shoot until the person stops, which could have happened here with the knife. you don't really think like "oh let me just stab/shoot them to hurt them enough so i can get away"

i mean if she was even attacking him - which i felt was questionable but at the same time - if theres doubt then i guess the right verdict was reached.

i dunno. really sad though for the family.
