india mahal

usually my go-to for indian food because it's the only one i know of around here and the last few times i have gone it really just has not been that good...kind of watered-down and lacking the robust flavors...i'm afraid it's about that time to give up on the place

India Mahal is probably the worst Indian food on Mother Earth.

I'd like to find some good, relatively inexpensive indian places around here. I've eaten at Saffron in Morrisville, and it was pretty damn good, but I'd like to find something a bit cheaper.

Does the Wolf Mart or whatever convenience store it is that has a little cafe thing in the back sell Indian food again? It was decent for being pretty cheap back in like ... 2006 or something. But then they changed it to Caribbean food. But I think at the Hike I saw that it said it was Indian again.

I know, convenience store Indian food sounds sketchy as hell, but it was tasty and the woman who worked in the kitchen used to make me food that wasn't on the menu just for the hell of it.

^^I haven't been over there in quite a while (Gopack's Bazaar), but last time I was in there it smelled like good Indian food. I would try it, but I agree it sounds sketchy.

^^ Yeah that's what it's called. I hesitantly ate there once in between classes one day when I didn't have time to go somewhere else and was tired of sandwiches. But then it was really good and I went back once a week-ish for a while. But that was years ago so no promises on how reliable that recommendation is now.

I eat at Gopack Bazaar all the time, and yes, it's back to being Indian food. Nothing sketchy about it. Food is solid for the price.

I'm glad it's still good. I'll have to get back out there sometime.

The N&O's restaurant critic gave the place (GoPacks Bazaar) a positive review in the quick bites column a few months ago, I'm sure it's at least decent.

Sitar (there's one on falls of neuse or six forks, and one in Durrrrham)
Royal India is good, but expensive.
Suchi in Cary is also excellent, and very reasonably priced.
bombay grille on 54 in RTP is good, too.
Tandoor on 55 is ok, but not great. definitely better than india mahal.

there are some other restaurants that i hear good things about, but have not yet tried.

The only ones I ever went to when I was around Raleigh were Indian Mahal (which always sucked) and Suchi, which was always really good.
