i have the same problem with them on my deck. they hibernate in the tree in front of my deck and then migrate over to my deck in the summers.

i took the dogs out this morning and noticed that a new nest had been made overnight (evident by the pile of sawdust and dime-sized hole in one of the railings)...they're driving me nuts

though i put most of the blame on the previous owners who built the deck but failed to use treated wood

I hate those fuckers... A nest that can't be taken car of with a hose and a broom is a sign of something sinister

If you've got dogs you probably don't want to be throwing around sevin dust.

^ i shouldn't have said "dust" as i'll be using the spray (we used sevin dust all the time when i was a kid, so it's a habit that i say it)...plus the dogs won't be around it for a couple of days

just a fun fact about carpenter bees

the males don't have stingers... so if you want to be a badass, when you see one with white spots on its face hovering and staring at you (the males do this), grab it in front of your friends

i knew this...though the males are the aggressive ones, they can't hurt you...i was stung on the nose last year by a female, though, when i was filling up her nest with caulk

it hurt and my nose swelled up something fierce

Bees are cool with me, man. They give me honey. It's the carpenter ANTS that I can't stand. They're just moochers.

bees regret the day they buzz onto my property

same goes for pretty much any bug.

i keep cans of raid with lighters attached to them and use them as flame throwers to achieve instant death.

I'd prefer to make them suffer a long and agonizing death to teach them and their fellow bees a lesson but i'd rather them be vaporized instantly instead just in case they try to be a hero and go all kamikaze on my face
