I always use Velveeta as a base when making cheese dips. It melts so easily and binds the other ingredients together. Velveeta is also good for grilled cheese sammaches as was pointed out earlier. Other than that American cheese is pretty much useless. That Kraft orange shit is vile.

the american cheese that's made with milk tastes like milk to me. cheddar is just a giant piece of yellow block shaped oil. yuck.

i love mozzarella, brie, swiss on occasion, colby & monterey jack, and parmesan...just not on sandwiches. provolone has no flavor at all imo. i want creamy/milky, not oil. obviously we eat different american cheese or our tastes buds are off.
