68-73 auto year roundso 73 in the summer
5/10/2010 1:29:12 PM
we stay between 70 and 72 year round.
5/10/2010 1:29:29 PM
72 summer, 68 winter. Sometimes 68 when I sleep during the summer.
5/10/2010 1:29:49 PM
I didn't even run my AC until I woke up at 2 am, sweating, only to find that the temperature inside my house was 87 degrees.
5/10/2010 1:30:17 PM
yeah I agree 81 is much more comfortable.
5/10/2010 1:30:51 PM
5/10/2010 1:35:53 PM
ideal and what it actually is are two different things...Ideally, ~70 year round.Actually, ~65 winter, ~75 summer.
5/10/2010 1:37:53 PM
I live in Charleston, it's plenty humid and hot here.
5/10/2010 1:39:01 PM
Depends on whether we're awake or asleep or what time of day it is but I'll simplify it What we have now is basically 65 minimum in the winter with an 82 maximum downstairs and 84 maximum upstairs in the cooling season. If we have a lot of guests coming over we might bump stuff to 77 summer max and 68 winter minimum. My AC hasn't turned on yet this season while we have been at home. We stopped having to use heat back around March I think and haven't had to use heat or AC while we are home since. However I think that streak will break soon. I love the utility savings this time of year though It's amazing what fans and natural ventilation can do [Edited on May 10, 2010 at 1:41 PM. Reason : ]
5/10/2010 1:39:06 PM
72 is my ideal.I set the 'stat at 68 in the winter and 76 in the summer.
5/10/2010 1:40:25 PM
I'm set to 77 summer day, 76 summer night; 74 winter day, 73 winter night. So, I guess ideal is 75.
5/10/2010 1:46:41 PM
i need it colder at night to sleep than i do during the day when i'm awakehibernatin
5/10/2010 1:47:51 PM
i like it around 75 most of the time, but i rarely actually have it set there... propane is expensive when i'm running the heat, and i don't have A/C at this house, so setting it is a moot point in summer.
5/10/2010 1:48:56 PM
70-72
5/10/2010 1:50:09 PM
I don't know how you people can stand 80 degrees all the time.

5/10/2010 2:01:50 PM
68 is about right

^^^ If it's below 76 degrees, I have to wear a sweatshirt. I get cold easily.
5/10/2010 2:27:18 PM
72 is pretty good. With an overhead fan going though.
5/10/2010 2:29:14 PM

I really don't know what I prefer- thermostats are so damn finicky and peculiar. I have been places where 72 degrees feel freezing to me, and others where 68-70 has me at a slow sweat during the summer
5/10/2010 2:50:59 PM
I keep a small digital thermometer in my room so I always know what the temp in my room is, since it is never less than 3-4 degrees higher than the T'stat readout downstairs. If you care enough go buy one, they cost like $5.
5/10/2010 2:53:36 PM

I'm about 71-73 summertime, 68-71 winter time.I read somewhere 3 degrees was worth like 10% of your bill so I play along OP, why bother having AC if you're leaving it at 81? I bet you freeze to death in the winter or go broke trying to maintain 81.[Edited on May 10, 2010 at 3:08 PM. Reason : Nerd post: Data from StarTrek says "blah blah blah average human comfort zone is 21c +/- 1 degree.]
5/10/2010 3:07:07 PM
When the temp of the house is 90 or higher w/o A/C, 81 degrees is refreshing. I keep the temp at 65 in the winter and just wear multiple sweatshirts and thick socks.Florida gets hot. 81 is pretty comfy.

I don't really care during the day though.. sometimes we'll shut the AC off and just use fans/windows.Shit's gotta be cozy and conducive to cuddling at night, son.
5/10/2010 5:56:00 PM
cuddling and no AC don't go together sticking to each other and no AC, now that works.

We have our thermostat at 74 and it feels chillers in here to me eventhough I like it cold at night...I LOVE MY COLD SPOT ON MY SIDE OF THE BED!!! i have to have a cold room to sleep well.
5/10/2010 6:59:33 PM
even in a cold room I need a fan blowing on me or I get hot
