So I keep hearing that if you get cable internet you are already getting free cable service. We just use OTA HD with a $10 antenna from walmart but I don't get anything when I take the cable out of the modem and into the TV. Does it need to be split or am I just being joshed around?Obviously you can only test this is you only get cable internet as well...

W/ TWC, if you have road runner, basic cable signal is coming to your house, but they put a "block filter" at the outside cable box. You can either remove it yourself or try to pay the cable guy to "forget" to put it in (it is just a little metal connector piece). They put locks on the box now though so you would have to cut that off, which is just that much more illegal (destruction of property), so it is more risk. Note: I'm not advocating any of this- just telling you how it works[Edited on May 10, 2010 at 9:04 PM. Reason : iPhone typos]

It's hit or miss from what I remember. It used to be that there was a need for some filter to be applied to the line, and a lot of installers didn't bother putting the filter on in the first place.

yeah i'm not looking to do/mod/break anything other than connecting a splitter, if they wanted to pipe free cable to me than i'll take it but we've lived without cable for 3 years so no loss
